Dems, don't let Repubs bamboozle you, America IS a democracy.

Well, if your rallying call of "we're a democracy" actually means, "abolish the electoral college", then you're just being disingenuous. In that case, I'll pitch in with the "no, we're not" crowd. Just be aware that all that really means is, "no, we're not getting rid of the electoral college, it's an important check on unlimited majority rule."

You can now return to your fake argument, and pretend that anyone who disagrees with you hates democracy.

The OP has one premise, that, despite some republicans claiming that America is not a democracy, America is, indeed, a democracy.

Now, if we want to discuss why some Republicans, such as Mark Levin, are making this argument, it's another subject. Related, but it is another topic. I have a good idea why, and it's bogus.

/----/ I posted real arguments, Rumphole. You just make them up. No one said states vote. Of course they do when it comes to constitutional amendments, but we're not talking about that, you idiot.
When you complain that ending the EC will results in states being ignored, you are implying that states vote.

But, since they don't, your complaint is moot and not a valid argument for ending the EC. There are other arguments, just not that one.

Wrong, it is serving this constitutional republic very well.
No, it is serving Republicans very well. But, it isn't serving democracy very well.
Were it not we would already have descended into the fascist dictatorship you are so desperate for.
yeah, right:

/——/ No you moron. The EC protects the rights of low population states to be heard. They are mostly conservative states. Without the EC the largest populated states on the coast would determine the president. They are mostly democrats.
Is that simple enough for you to understand?

No. We went over that. What you're really stoked on is abolishing the electoral college. Because it's working.

That's the irony of it all. The balancing act of the EC ensures that no party can just dismiss the interests of rural states. Regardless, Dems really want to dismiss the interests of rural states, and it burns them up that the EC punishes then for it. Too bad. That's what it's supposed to do.

The EC demands that the parties do better than simple majority rule. To win they have build a broad consensus across different regions and demographics. Sorry about that!

That was important early in America where the disparity of size wasn't overwhelming, but with states of 39,000,000, 20,000,000 etc., the point is rather silly, and, in fact, the point is MOOT.

Simple enough for your pea brain to comprehend?

Now fuck off.

When, for the first time in 200 years, the EC produces two minority vote wins within a couple of decades, it's time to reform the EC. I support the NPVIC

It's not working as intended. They NEVER intended on the minority vote winning the EC. Evidence for this is that it happened only twice in 212 years after 1788 when Washington was election. Between then and the year 2000, it happened only twice. From 2000 until now, it happened twice, increasing the frequency factor 400%. So, it's no longer working as intended.

There is no system more fairer than one man, one vote.

States do not vote, people do. One man one vote is democratic. When a minority wins, that is not democratic.

"...fundamental maxim of republican government, which requires that the sense of the majority should prevail" --Alexander Hamilton

The ONLY reason you are arguing for it is because Republicans fear losing power if the NPVIC is enacted. Well, it's about time that the market place is a free market of prevailing ideas, and let those with the winning ideas prevail, that's a free market, that's the will of the people, that's democracy.

Nope. If you're the losing party, it's time to reform your campaign practices. You're doing it wrong!

Nope. We already talked about that too. Unlimited majority rule is a shitshow.

Wrong again (you're on a roll!). I despise the Republican party and hope they lose.

No. Majority rule is not freedom. Freedom is letting people decide for themselves. Majority rule forces conformity. Try another excuse.

/——/ No. and stop trying to overturn our Republic, Rumphole.

We aren't a democracy. We are a constitutional republic. The Founders were far more intelligent than you and had read their Greek histories, so knew, unlike you apparently, that pure democracy was an absolute terrible choice for the freedom of the individual.

Were you better educated you would understand.

No one is suggesting a 'pure democracy'.

The term 'democracy' can be either direct, or indirect.

A constitutional republic is generally a democracy, as in a representative democracy, but a democracy nevertheless.

The definition of 'democracy' doesn't equal 'direct democracy', per se.

Even Madison's contemporaries considered his use of the term as aberrant.

So what are you saying, 'minority rule' is democracy?

That's insane.

What people who clamor on about abolishing the EC in favor of a popular vote don't seem to realize that we already have elections decided on popular vote. In fact, we have 50 separate popular votes, one for each state. So yes, states do indeed vote.
