Under the original plan the Dems would have wasted $21 million. Now they plan on wasting $39 million. None of this is necessary. Nothing wrong with naming a base after a war hero.

---The Army expects to pay $39 million, said Lt. Gen. Kevin Vereen, Army deputy chief of staff for installations. In 2022, the congressionally-mandated Naming Commission estimated it would cost $21 million to rename the nine Army installations.---

Trump wanted to build a wall.... a total waste of money... and his supporters loved the idea.

Building the wall would keep the bad people out.

Would it?

Doesn't seem that way.
To keep people out you need better infrastructure than a wall. You need PEOPLE to man the wall, you need technology to find the people crossing the wall. Without a wall you could still have the people and the technology and it'd be just as effective and a LOT CHEAPER.

Israel has a "wall" and it's 90% fence because.... that makes way more sense.

Because they have guards at the fence who shoot their weapons.

And what did I say? That you need to man the border.... you can have an expensive wall AND guards, or a cheaper fence AND guards, or just technology AND guards.

Israel thinks that, for the most part, a fence is the best option. Why?

And why did Trump think an expensive wall was the best option?

Because it sounds good to his supporters... nothing else.

Yes .. border security sounds really good to Republicans .. and not necessary or needed to Democrats.

Hey, it is just money. In this case another 40 million dollars making a change with is no difference at all other than on paper to assuage the guilt of some white liberal somewhere, meanwhile, there are untold thousands of Americans whose country has so failed them that they are living on the street in a refrigerator box.

Wonder what that money could have better served, with renaming of a few bases with some other name nobody cared about or getting about 500 homeless people off the street, back on their feet and productive working people again actually PAYING taxes again.

KICKBACKS???

The Defense Department initially gave the Army $1 million to change the names, but “that’s not anywhere close to what we need,”
Yeah, it's way too much.

reason.com › 2023/01/18 › pentagon-cant-account-forPentagon Can't Account for $220 Billion of Gear Given to ...

Jan 18, 2023 · Auditors say the Pentagon cannot account for $220 billion worth of government-owned gear provided to military contractors—and the actual total is likely much higher.

"During negotiations, cuts to defense were never discussed," Rep. Chip Roy (R–Texas) said in a statement posted to his office's Twitter account last week. "Spending cuts should focus on non-defense discretionary spending."

That's a bunch of nonsense. If the Department of Education couldn't account for more than 39 percent of its assets, conservatives would rightly be outraged about the rampant waste.
If the Department of Transportation had misplaced more than $220 billion of equipment, they would likely haul Secretary Pete Buttigieg before a committee to answer for the mess.
The Pentagon should be treated no differently—in fact, given the long-standing accountability issues there, it should arguably be subjected to even tighter scrutiny.

It's nothing new......Back in the day they used to let you hunt in certain designated areas at Marine Corps Base Quantico in Stafford County, Virginia. All you needed was a Virginia hunting license and a reservation. They would tell you where you could hunt when you got there.

I went with a co-worker (he retired from the Brig there) once and there was what looked to be brand new equipment just parked out in the woods. My friend said that come procurement time they would just take stuff out and park it, list it as broke beyond repair, so they could get new stuff. The idea was to go back and get it but they seldom did so they just sat. I'm talking D-7 Cats and all manner of other heavy equipment.

Unreal.
Those orders must have come from generals, in tight with the lobbyist.
The old adage applies...."Truth is stranger than fiction".
Most of the time...........Worse.
