the former POTUSs get $$$$ for offices/etc.....seeing that they they make big $$$$$ on book deals/speeches/etc, isn't it just common sense to just pay for their security and that's it???

Now, if the system were set out differently, then the money would be spread out a little more rather than being concentrated in large multi-national firms.
