A group of conservative evangelical leaders broke with their political brethren Wednesday, coming to Washington to push the White House and congressional leaders to pass comprehensive immigration reform that includes a path for undocumented immigrants to attain legal status. Political conservatives have long balked at an immigration policy that includes what they term "amnesty" for illegal immigrants, but the evangelicals see the issue differently.
It is now official, both parties extremists are insane.
The Rev. Sam Rodriguez, Jr., president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference said that a past disconnect between the pulpit and pew "diminishes in respect to rising conservative leaders," and he reminded those leaders to think carefully about their positions.
"Without the Hispanic vote the Republican Party and the conservative movement will need to garnish, in light of my colleagues around me, a miracle of sorts in order to win in Florida, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada and eventually Texas," he said.

I am pro amnesty , after closing the borders , and here is why.
It would be ridiculously expensive to actually round up all the illegal alien, give them their day in court, and then deport them. Not to mention the tricky legal issue of their children who were born here. Even if they changed the law today to eliminate anchor babies you can't take citizenship away from those who already have it. I mean do you have ANY idea how much that would cost to accomplish?
Simple solution. Close the borders tighter than a ticks ass then immediately announce that ALL illegals have 30 days to get their brown butts down to an INS office where they will pay a significant fine (or be deported immediately) then register for a program to get them on the path to citizenship. After 30 days any person caught in the US illegal is a federal felon facing a 5 year sentence mandatory.
It will NEVER happen because neither party cares to see it actually be done.

Whats so hard about it. Just because an illegal has a baby here, there is no reason we can't kick the parent out of the country. Sure, they could leave their baby here with some legal relatives or put it up for adoption, but if they want to stay with the child then they have to take it with them out of the country.

"Path to Citizenship" may be another.
The 2008 Republican platform flat out says: "WE OPPOSE AMNESTY"
Yet, here you have McCain proposing all sorts of ways people who have entered the USA illegally may become citizens.
The 2008 Democratic platform says that you learn to speak english, apply for citizenship, and we'll consider letting you stay.
Frankly, both parties are saying pretty much the same thing.
Rev Rodriguez recognises this, and is suggesting Republicans shit or get off the pot because he knows that the Republican (or "Conservative") agenda, particularly anti-abortion, will be easier to sell to his flock.
