China to Surpass US in 40 years

We need to be a lot smarter as to how we handle trade with China. We are their biggest customer, yet they dictate terms to us. They protect local industry with zeal, yet they are free to export to us with little or no trade barriers. We are their best customer and we should follow the American slogan, "The customer is always right".

The United States is contending with a growing lack of nuclear scientists and engineers at a time when their skills are expected to be increasingly needed to oversee the continued working order of the nation's strategic stockpile and to track the status of nuclear weapons programs overseas, the Boston Globe reported Saturday (see GSN, Aug. 28, 2009).

"It’s all about human capital. We didn’t invest in it and now we are going to pay the price."

To minimize the shortfall, Obama administration officials have suggested a number of proposals such as tuition aid and signing bonuses to encourage college students to study nuclear engineering, physics and other associated fields and to pursue employment in nuclear weapons work after graduation, according to budget requests.

NTI: Global Security Newswire - More Nuclear Scientists Needed in U.S.

Like Republicans are going to let anything Obama wants happen.

Republicans are NOT done gutting this country. There are still places with clean air and clean water.

6% or less.

Doesn't mattter. China is built on cheap labor. Labor costs have been rising there and they are losing factories to Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, etc. Then there's Africa as another source of cheap labor.
Add in the ethnic tensions and fears of a Chinese takeover are wildly exaggerated.

China has indefinite source of cheap-labor.
You also neglect the capital of Chinese companies, who are in the process of creating brands, which we in this Hemispheres still have not heard about, but soon will be confronted with.

Does not work anymore.

If that's the case why are they losing business to Vietnam?
But I am dealing with a Turk. Their common sense got lost sometime before the Armenian Genocide.

Interesting series on ABC news about China.
  • 255 million more TV's in China than the US
  • 3 million more cars sold in China than the US last year, 2 million from GM but are 95% made in China
  • McDonald's opening a new location every other day staffed by Chinese employes and all food from China.

Big profits for American Corporation but little help for the US job market.

But will they support the middle class in this country? Just kidding.

Across the country, China is spending $100 billion on infrastructure, twice the amount President Obama has requested in the United States. The Shanghai skyline, with its towering skyscrapers, was built in record time, just two decades. Large projects, like a sixteen-lane bridge, are completed in the time it takes just to acquire the building permits in the U.S. Just last week, 200 workers built a 15-story hotel in six days, using prefabricated pieces that snapped together like Lego building blocks.

Chinese engineering is speeding ahead in other areas, outdoing American efforts. By the end of next year, a train from Beijing to Shanghai will take just four hours. It will cover a distance equivalent to that between New York and Atlanta, a trip that takes Americans 18 hours.

These latest displays of engineering ingenuity have prompted responses from U.S. officials, including President Obama.

"It makes no sense for China to have better rail systems than us," Obama said at a press conference after the midterm elections. "And we just learned that China now has the fastest supercomputer on Earth. That used to be us."

Today more people study English in China than there are people in America. More Chinese are pursuing degrees -- the nation will produce more university graduates this year than India and the U.S. combined.

China's Growing Economy, By the Numbers - ABC News

The GDP growth rate in China is 10%. Three times that of the US. If the current growth rates continue China will surpass the US in 40 years.

They are a paper tiger, nothing more.....

Their largest problem is feeding the masses, they are lacking natural wildlife.....

Not to mention most of their '08 venues are not used for anything, no middle class.....

China's economy will eventually surpass ours. They have 1.3 billion people, and approximately three quarters still live in complete poverty. However, their middle class is growing by leaps and bounds. While some of their growth is due to government programs such as major infrastructure projects, those in power understand that the basics of capitalism are the driving force behind their growth. Communism as a form of governance only remains in effect to keep certain people in power. But those in power also understand that allowing individuals to flourish, within certain parameters, will continue their growth and most likely keep them in power. Will this ever lead to democracy in China? Hard to tell. Eventually, it probably will, but no guarantees on that. So long as the people see their lives improving and the economy creating more opportunities, I don't think the Chinese people are going to be in any rush to change their form of government, especially knowing the potential consequences.

I remember when the Japanese were going to own all of America. This was c.1975 or so. They would have to divide it with the Arabs, who were buying the other parts.
It was bunk then. It is bunk now. China's economy is still small comapred to ours. Their growthrate is not sustainable but is the product of "catch up" phenomenon. They are already losing market share to cheaper-labor countries like Vietnam.
Further, their society is highly unstable, with many ethnic minorities and sub groups, chafing under Communist rule.
We don't need to worry about the Chinese. We do need to worry about the clowns in our own government who put regulations in place to hobble savings, investment, and growth in this country.

Japan has a significant lower Population then USA or CHINA.
The productivity per person in Japan can never reach levels for Japan as a whole to out-power USA.
Simple equitation of population size and productivity per citizen.

If China has 4 times the population size then USA, then 25% per Chinese citizen productivity to US standard will be enough to match the power of USA.
It is general rule, further rules are fiscal balance etc. in which the Chinese State is anyway better then USA.
China is a colossus. Japan has reached its climax, China is just shifting its engine from 1st to 2nd gear. There are at least 6 gears.

If the Chinese are really smart, and I believe they are, they don't need to worry about other underdeveloped countries undercutting them. While much of their growth to date has been attained by selling goods outside of China, their true growth potential comes from within. With nearly three quarters of their population still living in poverty, bringing those people increasingly into the fold of the middle class is all that they need to accomplish. They have the biggest single potential market in the world. All they need to do is gradually bring the rest of the country along economically. It's not rocket science.

I count your post as 'I could not handle you'.
Move along, if you don't have arguments on the subject.

odd...China doesn't have EPA...PETA...Envirowhackos breathing down their necks as we do here to tie Manufactuers into court and certain bankruptcy...China has a plan for them...it's called JAIL...called suppression...Human Rights violations...and you libs are just all warm and fuzzy with it aren't you as long as your own country is beholden to them for buying our debt...as our base, our jobs dwindle and go to other places.

You Libs just remain comfy with that thought until the Chinese come calling for payment in full.

Got it?

Strangely enough those are the same things that people like you want to do away with in America.

Which is patently false. I do nothing but write of our greatness.

Project much? Sure you do. You too as so many others are out of your league here...and are nothing but hangers-on with no substance.

I DO wish to do away with the present America built first by Wilson...then FDR, followed up by Johnson, Carter, Clinton and a smattering of both HW and GW Bush....to be eclipsed by the big O... that you seem to want to embellish, support...failure.

Press on. You're dismissed. Enjoy your failure. Just don't expect us that get it to buy into it.

You totally missed my point regarding China. But I've come to expect it.

I'll talk to you again whenever you become educated. But then don't expect me to wait. Neither of us have that much time.

China blew past US under Bush. Now under Trump they have walked away from US farmers & taken over Africa & Brazil. They own 1/3rd of US pork production. It's just laughable how US citizens think we are great, when we have been lapped 3 times by China. Then Trump still has imposed no more than token tariffs just like Bush & Obama.

Where the US economy is projected to shrink by about 6% this year China is coming out the coronavirus downturn and should show about 1% expansion in it's economy. Next year, economist are expecting about 7.5% expansion in the China.
