I just learned a couple of days ago that Barry Nelson played James Bond.

Actually I just learned that Barry Nelson existed. I saw someone who I thought was Jackie Cooper on the panel of a 50's game show but heard the host call him Barry Nelson so I had to learn more about him.

That led to the surreal thought of Jackie Cooper being a Bond.

umm, no, I don't have a meaningful contribution to this thread.

Get back here!

Okay, I don't know that I ever saw a Bond movie, until Daniel Craig. That's strange, because I was really upset when Remington Steele wouldn't let Pierce Brosnan accept the role. And I thought Daniel Craig was a stupid choice. I wanted Clive Owen.

So you can imagine my surprise when DC totally made the part his own.

/peeks around the side of the door.

There's a possibility that I've seen a Bond movie all the way through but I couldn't swear to it.

I'm pretty sure I read a Bond book a couple of decades ago. But I can't remember which it was. I recently acquired a sizable collection of Ian Fleming paperbacks but I just put them straight into a box.

I LOVED Dalton in Jane Eyre. He didn't last long as Bond though, did he. Does that mean he wasn't very good?

Sean Connery set the bar.

Lazenby was very good.

Roger Moore is The Saint not Bond.

Barry Nelson was forgettable only because his portrayal was for television.

David Niven, Terence Cooper, Woody Allen, Joanna Pettet, Daliah Lavi, Peter Sellers and Ursula Andress don't count because the movie was a spoof.

Christopher Cazenove doesn't count because he only acted out scene from Fleming's books for a BBC documentary.

Dalton was very good, his portrayal perhaps the closest to Fleming's character, but the gap between films was too great and I don't think he was appreciated by the general audience as much as he was by fans.

Brosnan, like Moore he was more his television character than Bond.

Daniel Craig... Damn good Bond.

Favorite? More than one, less than five.

Oh, and Bob Holness was pretty good, but that was for a radio production and not many have heard it...

You didn't know about Barry Nelson?

By the way, I voted for David Niven simply because he was Ian Fleming's choice when he was asked who should play Bond.

You watch Who, too? Which is your favorite? I've only watched since the last re-start, and I think Tennant is my favorite, only because I'm still mad at Christopher Eccleston for walking away.

I voted Dalton. I thought he was an excellent Bond - much darker in his humor and a more brutal agent. Too bad they didn't get him pre-'View To A Kill'. That crap and 'Octopussy' really put the series in a hole. Awful movies.

I do think that Brosnan is the physical embodiment of James Bond. The first time I saw him on Remington Steele I thought he'd be the perfect 007.

Connery was strong. Moore had his moments. Craig is OK, but he's turned it into just another action role. There isn't a strong connection to Bond.

Are you hijacking your own Bond thread?

Same on the bolded, but disagree on Craig. Bond aficionados say he brought Bond back to its earliest form, closest to the books.
