Socialists transformed public schools into religious schools dedicated to teaching socialism. I base that conclusion on the fact that socialism is taught long after the three R's are mastered.
Teaching the three R's was the foundation for public education. It made sense to teach children a national language and basic arithmetic. Not long after publicly-funded basic education for every child was accepted by Americans, obedience to socialism became the primary goal of education training. As in all things government, Socialists quickly began enlarging its education mandate. The XVI Amendment eventually financed American Socialists in many areas of society, but tax dollar tithing began with education.
I want to approach the subject of socialism in public schools by first citing Catholic elementary schools. I selected Catholic schools to use as an example. The principles are the same if you substitute schools run by any religion. Schools run by an organized religion are basically the same in that they teach the tenets of their religion while teaching the three R's.
Catholic schools teach students the Pope is infallible in matters of faith and morals. That is an oversimplified example of teaching a specific religion. Every religious school has its own unique doctrine although the differences are often negligible to the outsider when looking at religious sects faithful to the same God. The goal of every religious school is universal; make the child a lifelong supporter of the religion being taught. For all practical purposes devotion to a religion means financial support for a specific church. There is nothing wrong with organized religion so long as participation remains voluntary.
When anyone says they attended a Catholic school there is no doubt what they mean, what was taught and who taught it. Teachers in Catholic schools are usually priests, or nuns, or brothers, or lay Catholics with teaching credentials. Christian sects also have Sunday Schools where the Christian faith is taught even though the child may go to a public school to learn the three R's.
Notice that Jeffersons always-elusive Separation of Church and State works very nicely when both sides stay and play in their own backyard:
Just to be clear about the doctrine of the Separation of Church and State. Socialists succeeded in circumventing the First Amendment. Because socialism is now the state religion funded by tax dollars there is no separation of church and state in America today. Logically, every religion should now have equal access to tax dollars. It has to be all or none if freedom is going to survive.
Attending an organized religion school is voluntary. Attending public schools is involuntary especially for those who cannot afford a private education. I do not mean the working poor only. In today's America the middle class cannot afford to send their children to a religions school and support the public education system as well. Private education for more than one child is completely out of reach for most Americans.
Homeschooling is becoming an option, but is still limited to those parents who are determined to keep their children out of the public schools without sending them to a school run by a traditional religion.
Now compare the teachers in the public schools to the teachers in voluntary Catholic schools. Keep in mind that Catholic school faculties teach religion alongside the three R's with the full consent of the parents who send their kids to Catholic schools; whereas, socialism is a religion being taught in public schools without the consent of most parents. It is important to make that distinction in order to understand that Socialists teaching in public schools are priests. Look at it this way:
Should voluntary Catholic schools be limited to teaching the three R's only they would have no rationalization for being. Conversely, involuntary public education limited to teaching the three R's only would deny Socialists their legal authority to indoctrinate children in the glories of socialism/communism.
I want to point out that after a century of controlling America's education system Socialists still have to impose socialism on society at large by going through the courts because they cannot legislate their religion. In fact, in 2005:
Three-judge panel says parental rights end at schoolhouse door

Three-judge panel says parental rights end at schoolhouse door
The Schoolhouse Door ruling was a monumental victory for collectivist brainwashing, yet few Americans know about it, nor is it ever connected to giving more money to the education industry routinely rubber-stamped by state legislators and the US Congress.
Some confusion is bound to exist when you see teachers who practice a religion teaching in public schools. That confusion works to the advantage of Socialists. A diverse faculty gives Socialists plausible deniability when they are accused of teaching socialism.
The truth is: Todays Socialists control America's classrooms through the ED (Department Of Education); that control is strengthened by court-enforced academic freedom whenever a specific freedom favors something Socialists are after. So socialism being taught by a Catholic teacher in a public school does nothing to exonerate Socialists in spite of plausible deniability. Also, a Catholic teacher in a public school caught teaching Catholicism would be dismissed immediately. That same teacher will be executed after America becomes a full-blown Communist state.
Then there is question of secondary schools funded with tax dollars. The curricula in institutions of higher learning is no more free of socialisms doctrine than is the curricula in elementary schools. Can you imagine what would happen in colleges and universities if students showed up without all of that preliminary brainwashing?
Teaching history deserves special mention. History must be taken out of the realm of propaganda, or stop teaching it altogether. There is no other subject that so exposes the Communist priesthood in elementary and secondary schools more than does the things being taught by today's history teachers in public schools. Multiculturalism, environmentalism, sex education, and every other corrosive subject Socialists can dream up somehow find their way into history courses like political yeast. One example: The Founding Fathers did not create the greatest amount of freedom the common man ever knew. In socialist history the Founding Fathers were slave-holding, polluting thieves, who stole the country from the wonderful Indians who were one with nature.
As for funding higher education: Higher education should not get a penny of tax money nor should children be pre-programmed to accept socialism from their professors in college simply to get a diploma.
Journalism schools, film schools, etc., get tax dollars, too, and you see what they have produced. Worse still are schools for government; they are nothing but Socialist seminaries. Whenever I think of them I think of the plots in two 1964 movies; Failsafe and Dr. Strangelove. Both movies promote the Lefts favorite line of crapola. In both pictures a nuclear bomb is accidentally dropped on the USSR. In a show of good faith the American president makes a deal. The Soviets can bomb one American city in order to avert an all-out nuclear war.
My suggestion is to accidentally bomb the University of Tehran after Iran gets the bomb, then tell Irans leader he can bomb Harvard to even the score.
Parenthetically, Hollywood never made a movie where the Soviets offered the US the same deal after they bombed an American city by accident. There was no need for such a movie. Peace-loving, humanitarian, Communists offering the city-for-city deal is always implied.
Homeschooling
Socialists/Communists controlling Americas teachers unions, and the ED, are surely watching their philosophical allies in Europe more closely than they are clocking the presidential election. Heres the latest:

There is no reason for panic just yet. Even if Romney does cut funding as he said, the ED knows that funding is going to be increased on state and local levels no matter who wins the election. They also know that parental Rights still do not . . . extend beyond the threshold of the school door.
Basically, European Socialists appear to be losing a little ground, while their American counterparts are moving forward. Moving forward is putting it mildly. It has gotten worse since Phyllis Schlafly warned us about the NEA in 2007:

Homeschooling
Teachers unions and the ED hate and fear homeschooling because public education is about brainwashing much more than it is about teaching the three Rs. You cannot indoctrinate children if you cant get your hands on them. Homeschooling is alive and well in this country although it is under constant attack. Homeschooling is not faring well in Germany where it is still illegal. . .

Socialists/Communists controlling Americas teachers unions, and the ED, are surely watching their philosophical allies in Europe more closely than they are clocking the presidential election. Heres the latest:
For the second time in less than a week, a crack has appeared in what has been a largely unified condemnation of homeschooling by officials in Europe, and this time its coming from the radically anti-parent government in Germany.
Norbert Blum, a prominent member of Angela Merkels German CDU party who served as Helmut Kohls minister of labor for 16 years, has said Germanys modern education system is usurping children and ignoring the important role parents must play in education.
His comments were made in a presentation prepared for the Global Home Education Conference 2012, which will be held in Berlin next week. They were reported by the Home School Legal Defense Association, which is contributing to the conference.
Today I observe a total usurpation of children by school. Children are exhausted by leaving home early in the morning and returning late in the evening. I am against the states education monopoly and see parents responsibly homeschooling as a healthy response to an imperious school system, his statement said.
