They said Hillary would beat Trump by 3 points and she beat him by two. They didn't factor in the Electoral Anachronism or Russian interference, but the polls got it right.

The problem is if you believe that they are an absolute, sure-fire guarantee of the future. If you believe that, then you either don't understand math or, well, reality because nobody knows what will happen in the future for certain.

This poll isn't a predictor of what will happen in one year from now. It estimates that if the vote were to happen now, Biden would win about 46% of the vote. Polls are not predictors of the distant future. They are predictors of the near future.

Polls are not certainties of what is going to happen. They are probabilities of what is going to happen. They are usually right most of the time. If you believe they are not, then you aren't paying attention. But if you put your house on a poll, then you are a fool.

People simply don't understand math and probabilities. I don't know how many times I've read on here "Well, the polls said XXX was going to win, but polls also said Hillary was going to win, so XXX isn't going to win." Then XXX would win, whether that was Doug Jones in Alabama, the Democrats in 2018, Macron in France, etc. Picking out a handful of polls that were wrong as proof that they can't ever be believed when most of them have been right over the decades is just cognitive bias and ignorance of statistics.
