Between The Years 2000 And 2007, 50,000 U.s. Plants Closed

. We've had Free Trade in this country forever........

dear things are very very different now. We have globilization. The world is flat. If our goods are not world class we die as a country! Do you understand? Would you want to buy a russian car that was free of competition? Get it now??

In 1980 you paid 10 years salary in Hungary for a car without a gas gage (dip stick instead) that had to be backed up a hill because of a gravity fed carburetor. They employed engineers by the 1000's all of whom swore that was the best they could do.
It is not until you have had years and years of free Republican capitalist international competition that you have any idea how many engineers are needed, at what salary, to produce what quality.
Can you understand the analogy?

Dear...........We have produced Global Quality goods here........Yet our Regulations and labor prices are higher than in places like China. Who pay their people about $2 to $5 a day to produce chit. Over 200 million people in Central America live on less than $5 a day.

Name ANYONE in this country that can live on those wages..........

Can you understand the analogy? Dear.

NAFTA At 20 1 Million Lost Jobs 580 Increase In Trade Deficit

Some of the effects of NAFTA that are highlighted in the report include,

  • $181 billion U.S. trade deficit with NAFTA partners Mexico and Canada,
  • one million net U.S. jobs lost because of NAFTA,
  • a doubling of immigration from Mexico,
  • larger agricultural trade deficits with Mexico and Canada,
  • and more than $360 million paid to corporations after “investor-state” tribunal attacks on, and rollbacks of, domestic public interest policies.
The data also show how post-NAFTA trade and investment trends have contributed to:

  • middle-class pay cuts, which in turn contributed to growing income inequality;
  • how since NAFTA, U.S. trade deficit growth with Mexico and Canada has been 45 percent higher than with countries not party to a U.S. Free Trade Agreement,
  • and how U.S. manufacturing and services exports to Canada and Mexico have grown at less than half the pre-NAFTA rate.

.

dear, we trade globally and have for decades and don't need to live on "those wages". China has cheap labor as a resource but we have huge advantages too like the brains to design and sell what they manufacture. Do you think China should suspend trade becuase of our resources?? Slow?

Do you want to suspend trade with Equador because they have the resource of climate to grow bananas or with Saudi because they have the resource of oil??

When China plays on the same playing field as businesses in the United States I might actually care what they say. In the mean time your position allows more companies to leave to create jobs in China than in the United States...........

I support the USA.........Not China.

dear they have cheap labor, we have an educated population, Saudi Arabia has oil, and Equador has bananas. We get rich by buying from who is the best at what they make.
Do you want to grow our own bananas at $10/lb or buy them at 10 cents a pound from Equador?

Do you pull magical tariffs prices out of your ass.............A tariff doesn't mean that all products would suddenly stop coming to the United States and all our prices would go so high we'd ALL STARVE....................

That's all BS. Trade should be negotiated on a case by case basis..........Both sides negotiating to protect their own economies.

U.S. manufacturing wasn’t in bad shape up to about the year 2000. That’s when a lot of manufacturing plants started to close and massive job losses began. What happened that year to cause this decline?

Before the year 2000, China’s trade status had to be renewed annually by Congress. The renewal was always controversial and uncertain. So companies were reluctant to invest in China or send work there because they were never sure they would be able to bring in Chinese-manufactured products. But in 2000, Congress enacted a law that gave China permanent normal trade relations. That meant the uncertainty was gone. Companies started making investments in China because they knew the trade status was permanent. And in 2001, China became part of the World Trade Organization (WTO). These two events started massive manufacturing-job losses in the U.S.

Congress, hmmmm, 2000? Who was in charge of congress?

Thought so.

a liberal lacks the IQ to understand free trade. He wants every person in the world to make everything he consumes so as not to be damaged by trade.

That shows you how dangerous liberalism is and how it is based in pure ignorance.

What a dumb grease ball

no dear , most jobs have gone because of unions and the highest taxes in the world.

We'd agree that is part of the equation......I believe in Taxed Enough Already.................but to allow 3rd World countries Free Trade on everything here is pure STUPIDITY.........

Dear....

And since 2008, this has been Obama's 6-year recovery...

But how could this be? :dunno:

Dear....

why? you don't like bananas at 10 cents a pound. You'd rather grow your own at $10/lb in a greenhouse? Notice how you are unable to answer any of the questions? What does that tell you?
You'd rather make your own oil rather than get it from Equatorial Guinea?? Do you want to invent your own lithium or merely mine it in SA??

Dear there is perhaps one thing that economists agree on. Its called free trade. Its called, more specificially, the theory of comparative advantage. Why not study it??

Who was the president who signed off on it, dipshit?
Republicans keep saying everything that happens during Obama's terms means he OWNS it. The jobs left while Bush was president and Republicans controlled both houses.

THAT MEANS REPUBLICANS OWN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Who was the president who signed the legislation?

I know it wasn't the same president that signed the agreement that we leave Iraq. Republicans say Obama owns that agreement even though he didn't sign it. And that it was a big mistake to remove the troops.

Since Republicans in both houses overwhelmingly signed that trade agreement, you know Bush would have signed it anyway. Don't pretend he wouldn't have. So it doesn't really matter who signed it. It was going to be passed anyway.

Who was the president who signed the legislation?

73 Democrats in the House voted for the bill

http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2000/roll228.xml

37 Democratic Senators voted for it as well.

Roll Call Vote

Are you finished now, troll?

73 Democrats in the House voted for the bill
But 138 voted against it. Guess that makes it the Democrats fault? Even with 164 Republicans voting for it?

And with only 46 Republicans in the senate voting for it, guess that's also the fault of the Democrats.

No matter what the GOP does, it's the fault of the Democrats. Except for taking out Bin Laden. Republicans insist that was because of them. Even though they let him go and stopped looking for him.

The genius of the demented mind.

Oxymoron?

Nah, just moron.

This is true. The world is not a wealthy, peaceful place today because Democrats blunted the shot heard around the world because they treasonouslty support powerful central govt. .
