As for individual rights over the rights of all the people, the two conflict in ways that could be a topic of discussion. As is the abortion issue for Catholics, there's no quick and dirty answer.

I couldn't care less about your opinions on abortion. That's up to each state to decide.

Of course there is a quick and clean answer; individual rights trump group rights.

Yes sometimes but you don't care and I can't convince you to care. My point in that thread is that the Catholic church has erected roadblocks to ensure that their flock can't deal with unwanted pregnancies before it's too late.

We may or may not continue that discussion on the appropriate thread.

Caring or not caring doesn't change reality. Each state will decide for itself. That is reality. What is there to discuss?

Thanks for asking. I favour socialism within a capitalist system, or socially responsible capitalism. Most Americans don't understand what that means and they don't understand what communism is either. Do you?

Even America's capitalism contains a very small amount of socialism and indeed, without that there could be no church purpose.

Actually, what you are talking about is a welfare state, and all modern democracies are welfare states to some extent. In a welfare state, the creation of wealth and he distribution of wealth are handled separately. Wealth is created by private investment in a free market economy, and then some of it is taxed away and redistributed. Communism and socialism can only exist in authoritarian states.

So getting back on topic, the OP's leanings toward communism make him a biased observer when it comes to Russia. Or at least it appears that way to me. And that bias is relevant to this thread.
