Cars are licensed. You have to take a test to use them. You can't use them while drunk. When sold privately there has to be transfer papers filed. The list goes on. There are digital databases for cars that the governments can use to trace the owner.

I'm not disputing you. I'm looking at it differently.

Car safety is often given in total accidents per total mileage.
When a car is not in use people are safe.

When a gun is safely stored, people are safe. When a gun is in the hands of a person in confrontation, what are the accident odds that someone will be killed? I don't know if those gun statistics exist or not, but it would make the car/gun statistics much more meaningful.

Here you go....keep in mind there are close to 600 million guns in private hands.....and over 16.3 million Americans now have permits to carry guns for self defense.....

Of gun murders....70-80% of the victims of gun murder are criminals engaged in criminal actions....and of the rest, many are freinds and family of criminals caught up in the criminal's lifestyle....

Guns have none of that.

Of course there is. There is a test...it's called a background check. But it does have flaws. You have to be 16 to drive a car. One shoud be 21 to own a gun. Hmmm... maybe 25. Why would a kid need a gun? Do they take their fingerprints? They should, And that fingerprint goes into a national inventory of fingerprints.

People break the rules all the time with cars. Maybe those cars should be taken away when they break the rules, too.
