until newspaper intervenes

Being poor and without funds for medical care in Sacramento may be a familiar health trend. The big, bad bank won't evict the couple with the foreclosed home after all--until after a 55-year old unemployed public school roofer husband's quadriplegic and terminally-ill 59-year old wife, a former hospital nursing assistant, dies. Temporary rescue came because the media made the story public.

A Fair Oaks, Sacramento county couple are caught in a medical and financial crisis. See the December 18, 2011 Sacramento Bee article by Anita Creamer, "Terminally ill woman to stay in foreclosed home until she dies." The wife suffers from the last stages of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS.

It kinda seems like the bank is being framed as the bad guy there, but to me it's the government that's fucked up. Or I guess more specifically, voters who allow the US to proceed without a universal healthcare system analogous to that found in other developed nations. Also in Australia we have a government housing trust for this kind of thing to give people with low incomes or disabilities houses at a subsidised rent. Does anything like that exist in the US?

A "modest" Fair Oaks house? That's a hoot.
Quarter of a million dollar refi- and you're telling me the bitches got no assets?

What's your point?

There are so many thing wrong with this story...grrrrrr.

There's been an update with good news--

Am I supposed to be outraged because the bank, once they understood the circumstances, decided not to foreclose and allow the couple to live in the house?

well its Christmas, so she can stay, I say throw her out tomorrow. just line her up on the out ramp, and give her a good push.....

...

voters who allow the US to proceed without a universal healthcare system analogous to that found in other developed nations.

But, if we followed other countries we might have the income of other countries, or, instead of having 80% of all recent medical patents we might have only 20% or less and thus not be able to create medical care for virtually the entire world. Make sense?

Which countries?

Actually you'd probably have higher incomes since adopting one of our models would greatly reduce your per capita healthcare costs:

Or, you could rely on the amazing powers of capitalism to innovate a new business model for medical research? I mean if this is even a risk.
