Since Congress mandated an across the board audit of all agencies in 1990, the Department of Defense has still not complied. During that time, the Department of Defense has spent over 10 trillion dollars, and no one at this time knows what all the holdings are in the inventory in terms of buildings and material.

It's time the Department of Defense comply with an audit, and for that agency to be considered for reduction as with any other Federal entity in the pursuit of reducing the size of the government.

    What say you?

It would be a monumental waste of time. Look at all the money that is unaccounted for in the war on terrorism.

Absolutely, the federal government is not an employment agency. We can cut out the expensive toys and still "provide for the common defense". Audit the secret CIA budget while we are at it.

They can't, because of all the secret weapons and planes that they test and make.

We can start with a basic audit, you know, for all that painted grass, and the thousands of tons of extra material that are buried at hundreds of sites worldwide every time their is an IG inspection. Vets and old timers know what I am talking about.

$300 wrenches are old news and surplus disposal is a minor problem. The Cold War is over but the old farts don't seem to understand that we don't need another Carrier or fighter plane that will go obsolete before it ever engages in a real fight. The threat is changing but the old guard still thinks taxpayer funding is a sure thing and they still might be called back to fight in Korea.

Of course the audit will entail a century of litigation; why worry about those pesky billions wasted on the B-1? Cheney cleared millions off his Halliburton stock, kindly given to the charity of his closest thugs, er, FRIENDS, and family.

To put the fear of God into them and make them understand that they work for us, not the other way around!

I'd rather see an audit of the State Dept. If we're so wealthy we can just give it away in foreign aid we can afford whatever is needed for defence.
