For an entire century, garden gnomes were deemed too tacky for the Royal Horticultural Society's (RHS) dignified Chelsea Flower Show in London, which opened its gates to the public for the 100th time on Tuesday. But this year the RHS has granted a generous exception for the common garden ornament. A hundred gnomes designed by distinguished British celebrities -- including Sir Elton John and Dame Maggie Smith -- will be auctioned off for charity.
