It turns out that the modern professional US army is the brainchild of Nixon. It was he who introduced the general volunteer army, before that it was a left-wing recruited.

I want military experts to appreciate the quality before and after the reform and write comment
And please write the evaluation criteria
Thank you.

By the way, Nixon himself was a Navy volunteer, and participated in the hostilities

Unless you hadn’t heard…

The Draft was very unpopular during Vietnam
The Army had no choice but to adapt

does it have anything to do with the quality of the army?

The biggest problem with Army quality during Vietnam was morale. Draftees did not want to be there

Todays volunteer Army wants to be there, wants to be trained and wants to advance

Volunteer makes more sense

LBJ bypassed congress and got Americans into Vietnam with a faked crisis and the media played along with it. LBJ set the rules so that Americans could win every battle and still lose the war. Just when it seemed that U.S. forces finally wore down the V.C. after the Tet offensive LBJ quit the effort and the V.C. got a crucial breather. Nixon was crazy to take the job. He had the deck stacked against him with the media and the democrat activists and the violence in the streets..

If there was a problem with the quality of the army, it was due to the low quality of those drafted. The majority were uneducated and poor. The wealthier kids could get out of it.

After Pearl Harbor thousands and thousands enlisted. The data is staggering. The numbers who needed extensive dental work, eye glasses and remedial reading tells me they weren't wealthy. They were coal miners, sharecroppers, lint heads.
