Another obama lie. "Cop-killer" AR-15 bullets he wants to ban have caused ZERO cop deaths

Now that we have TWO (thanks Rabbi) photos of the AR-15 "handgun", the silliness of the green tip ammo ban to save the lives of cops becomes more readily apparent.

Yep, basically any hunting rifle ammunition is capable of piercing soft body armor, this round has been exempted for 30 years with no real problems. Just another maobama solution in search of a problem.
The issue is the plethora of AR pistols out there.
No, a ban wont do anything. But that isnt how ATF operates. Their rules say any pistol ammo that is armor piercing is banned. This ammo is now available as pistol ammo, and it is armor piercing, so it must be banned. They really dont have a choice here.

Gun control advocates LIE its what they do. They can't convince the people with an honest gun control argument so they lie through their teeth.

gang members don't carry AK 47's in their pockets either .. but Romney had them banned.

The AR-15 handgun has been around since the early 90s.

The green tip ammo has been around even longer.

No one can show that in all that time the AR-15 handgun and its "cop killer" ammo (Appeal to Emotion Fallacy) has been used to actually kill a cop.

Thus it is demonstrated that this ban is not about saving the lives of cops.

If it is not really about saving the lives of cops, then it logically follows there is a different motive at work.

Zero cops killed by Obama s bad ammo

The White House claim that the ammunition for the popular AR-15 rifle should be banned as part of a “common sense” effort to protect police officers’ lives is being derided by police officers themselves as a shameful lie.

In fact, gun-rights advocates and law enforcement agencies contacted by WND say they have been unable to document a single incident in which a police officer has been taken down by a criminal using an AR-15 handgun in the 20 years since this particular round, the M855 ball, has been exempted from the federal ban on armor-piercing bullets. It was exempted based on its use for sporting purposes.

“We have not been able to find a single instance where a police officer has been shot from this type of handgun using a bullet that pierces his soft-body armor, and if the administration had any examples you know they would be pushing it in everybody’s face to further their executive action,” said Alan Gottlieb, executive vice president of the Second Amendment Foundation. “We’ve scoured everywhere, gone into every source possible to try to find an instance of this and have not been able to find one.”

I own both an AR-10 (7.62) and a AR-15 (5.56) as well as a Remington 700 with a Leupold scope (9X16). I have used the M855 round for the AR-15 for the last 15 years and have never pointed it at anything other than a few steel targets and a couple of bucks. I could (God forbid) take out a man in body armor (ATAC) at 800 yards with my Remmington that does not fire "armor piercing" rounds with little to no trouble. This is nothing more than an attempt by Obama to make the news. Nothing more. It is designed as a "first strike".

I have recently returned from an Alumni meeting with several friends I worked with at DIA for many years, where these types of discussions came up repeatedly. Prepare yourselves. This is only the beginning. Wake up America.

They havent been nearly as common as they are now.
The ban has nothing to do with saving cops' lives. Even ATF doesnt pretend it does. ATF is following the law here. They have a point, strictly speaking. That it wont save lives, or do anything constructive is irrelevant.

Armor-piercing handgun ammunition has been banned since 1986 as a way to protect police officers under the federal Law Enforcement Officers Protection Act.

how old was Obama in 86?

The ban has everything to do with saving cops' lives. That was the whole point of the law that was enacted in the 80s. I well remember the debates from that period.

The existence of AR-15 handguns and green tip ammo all this time illustrates the idiocy of the original law.

As with any bureaucracy there is always a choice. Armor piercing ammo has been baned for a long time, the ATF waived that for this round, there is no reason that waiver can't be continued. Using your logic all 223 ammo can pierce soft body armor and since they will fit this so called handgun, should they all be baned? The 223 handgun is nothing but a modified rifle with no butt stock, it's more of a hybrid than it is a pistol.

apparently Law Enforcement Officers Protection Act passed in 86 was effective. No cops have been killed with greentips ...

Pretty much of a stretch to call any AR or AK a pistol but, they do it.

It was the Gun Control Act of 1968 which banned armor piercing ammunition. The act was inspired by the assassinations of JFK, RFK, and MLK.

The exemptions were written in 1986 in the act you mentioned.

It wasnt a ban in the 1980s. It goes back to the GCA of 1968.

No, that is incorrect.
Armor piercing ammo has not been banned. Only armor piercing ammo for pistol rounds. The .223 was a rifle round. Until people started chambering pistols in the round.
The standard FMJ is not classed as armor piercing. True, it will do more damage than the 62gr green tip stuff. But that isnt what makes it armor piercing.
ATF classified the AR pistol as a pistol. There is no hybrid classificatin under the law.
