Angels Pitcher Among 3 Killed in Fullerton Hit-Run | NBC Los Angeles

Los Angeles -- Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart, 22, was among three people killed in a crash at a Fullerton intersection early Thursday.

Adenhart, another man and a woman were all killed, and another man was critically injured, in a three-vehicle crash blamed on a motorist who ran a red light at a Fullerton intersection, police said. Besides Adenhart, one of the other people who was also killed was also part of the Angels organization.

Authorities withheld the names of the dead for hours, pending family notification.

Adenhart was born in Silver Spring, Maryland on Aug.24, 1986.

"The right-handed pitcher graduated from Williamsport High School in Maryland and made his major league debut on May 1, 2008," TMZ reported.

Police said the driver of a minivan who was blamed for the crash fled the scene on foot but was arrested a short time later on suspicion of hit-and-run. A passenger who remained in the minivan suffered minor injuries, Brower said.

Just saw this on Baseball Tonight last night for the first time, what a tragedy.

Why does the drunk driver always live in these kinds of accidents? You NEVER hear about the drunk person dying, only the innocent victims.

    It's just awful.

Nick's father was retired Secret Service agent. The Angels let him have the field to himself yesterday. He just went out to the mound, squatted, and broke down. Poor guy.

But his son got to pitch one good game and he died knowing that he was good enough to say that he was a big league pitcher.

I'm curious about Joe Martinez too, he took a mean shot to the head. Those are the kinds of injuries where you're fine one day, and the next day you're dead.

I can't find any update on the CT scan results.

It doesn't take long for a drunk driver to kill someone. Adenhart played for the Arkansas Travelers! I saw him play once.
