The leading cause of death in the middle aged is heart disease. This is followed by cancer. Then respiratory disease, accidents, stroke and diabetes. Suicide is way down the list.

America has become fat, stupid, and lazy. We are victims of our own prosperity.

American wealth was equally split between the college-educated and non-college-educated in 1990, but today, three-quarters of wealth is owned by college graduates. For most of the last three decades, Americans cast ballots for two sides of the same neoliberal coin, endorsing a system in which resources are distributed according to ability rather than need. The neoliberal system handsomely rewarded the new meritocratic elite — the top 20 to 30 percent of the population that adapted and shined under our transformed information economy.

That is all true, and a large segment of the U.S. population has been ignored and left behind, these people are extremely vulnerable to a huckster and snake oil salesman running for political office, who promises to represent them, exactly like what we saw happen in 2016. These people have been ignored for decades by conservatives, and given lip service by Democrats.
