Last night, FX aired an episode of American Horror Story: Cult that depicted a mass shooting at a political rally. Because of what happened in Las Vegas, the producers voluntarily edited the opening and closing of the episode. Was that the right move? Do we censor art because it makes us uncomfortable? What does censoring this particular episode for that particular content actually accomplish? Seems to me that if the shooter's intent was to terrorize society, he succeeded because an unrelated Hollywood production self-edited to protect the feelings of others. Here's the episode (the first segment is what was edited), the graphic gunshots were edited out, but not the action of the shooter.
