Alaska Republicans Blast Biden for Reversing Trump-era Plan to Expand Drilling in State

Just another nail in America's energy independence from the doddering Biden and his America-hating appointees.

He is the worst, most un-American President in history.

Despite soaring energy prices, the Biden administration on Monday said it would scrap a Trump-era policy that would have opened millions of acres in Alaska to new oil development.
The Trump administration had given the green light to expanded leasing and development in the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska, “one of the most promising onshore oil prospects in the country,” The Washington Post reported at the time. The plan would’ve opened about 82 percent of the reserve to fossil fuel extraction. Former Interior Secretary David Bernhardt said it was part of President Trump’s commitment to “expand access to our Nation’s great energy potential.”
"A recent analysis by the U.S. Geological Survey offered a mean estimate of 8.7 billion barrels in undiscovered oil and 25 trillion cubic feet of natural gas" in the reserve, WaPo said in its 2020 report.
In a statement, the Bureau of Land Management said the new “decision reflects the Biden-Harris administration's priority of reviewing existing oil and gas programs to ensure balance on America's public lands and waters to benefit current and future generations.”
Alaska Republicans blasted the reversal.

“For years, the NPR-A has been crucial to providing affordable energy to families across our country,” said Rep. Don Young (R-AK). “This move by the Biden Administration is not only insulting to the hardworking men and women on the North Slope, but also extremely foolish. Gas prices around the nation are soaring; why then would President Biden and the BLM want to kneecap our domestic production, thereby emboldening our oil-producing adversaries overseas?”

Why don't you try telling the truth for a change. Maybe if the number of rigs got back tio where they were before the pandemic, we would have plenty of oil. Yet oil producers have not ramped up production. Your assertion is totally unsupporfted.

The fact is that the Obama Administration allowed 50% of the land to be made available for drilling. There was no need to drill in 80% of NPR-A. Also Trump's plan would have destroyed critical wildlife habitats. These areas were protected by the Reagan Administration. We know what Reagan did so there is no guesswork. Numerous companies are already drilling in the area.

If you had your way, there would be a oil drill in Old Faithful. Drilling safely is as important as drilling. I would support drilling if I had confidence it would be done in a environmentally safe way.

Sure, sure that just cover for republic cancel cult.

So big oil didn't get to carve up the Alaskan Wildlife refuge right now, and we are still the number 1 producer on the planet. Big deal. Will the oil be worth less, next time an anti-environmental Republican wins the white house? I don't think so.
Energy prices must necessarily increase according to your side. Who gives a shit if we are number 1 or number 10 in producing oil if our gas prices are egregiously high?

And you think we could get a short term difference if we tore up the Alaskan Wildlife Refuge, or even more insane, it would affect prices this year? Did it ever occur to you the international market is buying the hell out of petroleum products on the international market and that is where the price is set, as demand goes up, even with us leading the world in production? Why don't you read a production report sometime?

So logic would dictate that you increase supply at every turn.

Supply is increasing, but with more staying at work and going back to work, as well as winter being here in the northern hemisphere where 60+ percent of the world population of developed countries live, it isn't keeping up and would not have kept up. It will level out, but at a new prolonged level of price. Best money to be made in a company or industry is a highest return on investment per dollar spent. Not, flooding the market, so you have to lower your price. I didn't make the rules, I just got "A"s in understanding them.

I define “supply increasing” as domestic availability of gasoline increases so that prices are optimal where the consumer is paying an affordable price and the firm is making profits. That is not the case now.

Too bad there is not a domestic market away from the lure of international price, as domestic producer sell internationally and domestically. Sound anything like the pharmaceutical industry? We actually pay more for them domestically than people buying them in other countries, as they figure we can afford it, and they have the domestic market locked in, yet have to compete on the international market.
