Yes, Billy Boob, you are somewhat more than slightly retarded. The heat of the volcanics, plus the CO2 they released, created a lot more GHGs in the atmosphere, and did so very rapidly. Which caused the Earth to warm very rapidly. Which caused the ocean clathrates to rapidly release the CH4 stored in them. And that created even more heating, and also caused a very serious decline in the O2 content of the atmosphere.
