Another, less trumpeted, distinction for DC Prep is the extent to which it — as well as many other charter schools in the city — relies on the Walton Family Foundation, a philanthropic group governed by the family that founded Walmart.

Since 2002, the charter network has received close to $1.2 million from Walton in direct grants. A Walton-funded nonprofit helped DC Prep find building space when it moved its first two schools from a chapel basement into former warehouses that now have large classrooms and wide, art-filled hallways.

One-third of DC Prep’s teachers are alumni of Teach for America, whose largest private donor is Walton. A Walton-funded advocacy group fights for more public funding and autonomy for charter schools in the city. Even the local board that regulates charter schools receives funding from the Walton Family Foundation.

Yep, brought to you by a bunch of folks that rely on government aid for their workers.

Yep, Teach for America are a bunch of asshats.

So we're blaming Walmart for the fact that more and more people are eligible for foodstamps?

That's not crazy or anything.

Capitalism pays workers according to their worth.

Paying workers according to their needs is a different ism, not welcome here.

I think she's referring to paying workers according to government mandate.

...or would that be Executive Order? :dunno:

Wal-Mart's employees need government aid to survive. They don't pay them enough so as tax payers we take care of that for them.

Wrong answer, Cornflake.

"A Walton-funded advocacy group fights for more public funding and autonomy for charter schools in the city. Even the local board that regulates charter schools receives funding from the Walton Family Foundation."

The end game for the Waltons is the same as the end game for Bill Gates...
Get tax payers to pump money into the pet projects of the wealthy.

Let them continue to fund their pet projects themselves.

Hm. They provided insurance for their employees before it was the law, and they're pouring money into education.

HOW DARE THEY!

Yes, how dare they rely on tax payers to cover what they are unwilling to pay their own employees and then donate mass quantities of cash to an industry they don't know anything about.

Yep. 'Cept they won't do that.

Good grief. Progressives really are mentally ill.

Have you said that out loud?

Try it. Wal-Mart refuses to pay their employees. Tax payers are on the hook to provide food etc.

How do you not know this?

Because they need the tax break.

Actually, I don't care about the motive. But, why should taxpayers subsidize them while they teach their employees how to apply for government aid?

It's a little more sinister then because they need the tax break. It's Gates sinister.

Meanwhile the philanthropists that the left loves to hate, the Koch brothers, fund hospitals and cancer research. What have left wing moguls done for us lately?
