Here is the scenario, my wife and I took my daughter to the store and she feel in love with a doll, so we decided to buy it for her with thinking about it. The doll was of a black child.

My wife had a black friend over and she stated this, "I don't care about, but to be careful in public with that, because many black people will take offense to it! She stated again she didn't care, but some black people think it will be offensive for a little white girl playing with a black doll?"

Now I ask, why they hell should it matter! Do whites gets made when a little black girl plays with a barbie? I mean its ridiculous. Charles Bass, please explain it to me from the racist black perspective!

Your wife's friend is a misguided fool.

Why would you take a doll away from a kid saying it's because some people might be opposed to white kids having black dolls? What would you be teaching the kid?

What the HELL?

Kids are color blind until taught by adults to be otherwise. My daughter had dolls of all ethnic varities, and it's funny, but her group of friends are of all "colors of the rainbow" so to speak.

Don't let adults ruin it for your child.

Actually my wife's friend is not misguided at all and is rather intelligent. She stated other black people might have a problem with it and for us to be careful!

My question was really aimed at, "why should black people have a problem with this?"

Maybe your wife should be a little more selective in picking her friends. This one seems to be a trouble maker.

that is just sillie...when my son was about 3 or 4...he picked up one of my dolls and refuses to put it down...."susie" went everywhere with us....daycare...etc...son is now in his 20's...susie is still honored...and thought of as friend..she remains tucked away in a chest....where she has been since he quit carrying her about...remember kids are innocent...regardless of race

Have any at this point? Besides your "rather intelligent" friend?
Otherwise, I don't think you have a point.

We weren't even considering that and it would be pretty tough to do even if we wanted to, since she loves that doll.

Yes, why should black people be upset that my 1 1/2 yr old daughter is playing with a black doll?

o hell do you know how many rednecks i had to smack upside the head for saying..."that boys gonna be gay" cause he played with a doll?

people can be stupid....no matter the color or the culture

Actually, I don't think I would let me son play with dolls, white or black. Thank god he doesn't! I don't think that is a redneck thing or even homophobic thing, I think its a male thing.

I fully support gay marriage and gay rights. And for the most part I have no problem with them and even have know a few pretty well. With that said I would not want my son (or daughter) to be gay. That would be hard on me. I would love him the same and ALWAYS support him. But as a man you want straight children!

So tell us more about these other black people who have objected to your daughter's doll? What do they say?

Keeping dolls away from boys makes them straight?

Guys play with dolls all the time. What do you think those G.I. Joes are? Those Super Hero things? WWE Wrestlers, etc. Seems like it's a doll to me. How many people turn out gay because they played with these "dolls"?

Much to the dismay of several guys I've known, I was not turned gay by playing with my brothers' toys - BB guns, bikes, slingshots, army guys, etc.

Anyone who thinks that just because a boy plays with "girl toys" or a girl plays with "boy toys" is going to end up gay needs to look inside themselves and figure out why they think that.

Young children will play with anything they can get their grubby little hands on. They are simply investigating and exploring this big world the only way they can right now - by playing. Adults need to grow the heck up and let the kids learn. Stop projecting our own insecurities onto them. They're innocent.
