Cliches are easy. Imagine if a thousand Americans were killed in a practice mission (Operation Tiger) today? Americans never knew it because the media became the propaganda arm of the government and the media writes the history books. A couple of thousand brave Troops died on the beaches of Normandy and generations of Americans recited media account of surprise and deception and victory but the casualty list during the breakout after Normandy is generally ignored. The victors write the history books.
