This is the topic to discuss the morality of opening up a poker room. Not necessarily the legality or the county laws state laws whatever that might be ….simply about the morality of it and maybe if it should be done on a federal level and allowed to occur all throughout the country with oversight and license.

Poker is a game of skill. It is not at all the same thing compared to going to a casino and “throwing money away” at a slot machine or a roulette table. Capitalism is what makes America. People risk everything to open up a restaurant or to invest in stock markets. In fact many many more people lose everything trying to start a business, open a restaurant or invest compared to people who lose all their money playing poker. A fraction of gamblers are so called problem gamblers. Like it is with people who open up a restaurant or a business it is the responsibility of the individual to assume bankroll management of their own wrt playing poker. And with capitalism there are always going to be people who do not have success at least right away.. that is simply the nature of America and capitalism. There’s no way around it. According to studies most Folks who walk through a casino for example end up spending about $20 and leaving only a fraction of people that walk-through casinos end up becoming problem gamblers. And for this thread, the game of poker is not for example like a physical drug or alcohol. People cannot die from playing a game of poker…. they can die from injecting a drug or even eating too much McDonald’s hamburgers overtime… studies show that playing poker increases somebody’s ability to think and actually increases their lifespan.

Opening up a standalone poker room This is in someways different from opening up a casino. There are a few standalone poker rooms in the country meaning an establishment that offers only the game of poker as opposed to also offering slot machines, table games, like blackjack and roulette, horse racing and or sports betting.

Looking at the types of people who oppose opening up a poker room, it would seem like many of them have the same values I do like opposing abortion, supporting Christianity, going to church, opposing legalization of drugs. Many of those folks opposed to the Poker room opening might be and probably are Trump supporters.

There appears to be a lack of information from those folks who oppose the Poker rooms. These are good people who oppose opening poker rooms but they are lacking some information that might change their minds. The USA was built by risktakers great men of history like George Washington or Andrew Jackson who took a risk to create this country or to expand it. And the very country that we live in is thanks to these men and women who built America. It doesn’t matter what color we are what ethnicity or what religion ….we are we all owe our gratitude to these types of men and women who either founded the country or expanded it to allow all of us in every 50 states that we live in to have a chance to prosper. So therefore based on that and the reasons provided in the second paragraph …Poker rooms should be allowed to open up anywhere in the country.

Sure, why not? America has no real interest in social responsibilities anymore. Is that the discussion you're trying to get started?

I think the general feeling of Americans is that it's a matter of freedom to choose.

But that is wrong!

As long as it is heavily regulated and there are federal charges for anyone who engages in cheating, including police agencies...

Poker is a game of getting edges, knowing the odds and recognizing betting patterns. Then there is the luck in the turn of the card...

“Is that the discussion you’re trying to get started?”

The best bet would be to quote one of the points made in the original post and then respond to it. Specifically in the second and last paragraph is where I provide my reasons for why Poker rooms should be allowed to open in the USA… and how it is similar to if not less risky compared to opening up a restaurant or a business.

You can also watch the video and listen to what proponents of opening up the poker room have to say and respond to their arguments. Perhaps quote what they say and respond to it so people can understand your argument.

Hope you’re doing well Donald

About 15 years ago when I lived in South Carolina there was this big bust just outside of Charleston of a "neighborhood poker ring." It started out as a few people in the neighborhood getting together like once a month, but eventually more and more people started joining in, including even some local law enforcement. As it got larger the stakes got higher. Ultimately, SLED got wind of it and busted the whole thing and confiscated tens of thousands of dollars out of someone's safe.

The whole time I was reading about this I kept wondering to myself who exactly was harmed here and what the point of breaking this up really accomplished.

They can play in their homes all they want. Crime follows organized gambling, that's a proven fact.

I'm doing well thanks.
You've posed your opinion as a question, when your mind is already made up. That tells me something about your motive, and so I'll be brief. You've covered the pro side argument but only disingenuously mention the downside.

My argument against would be wasted on you and I haven't seen any indication from others that they would have an interest in talking about the social damage gambling has done to America and will continue to do more rapidly as times get tougher for the poor and working class.

I don't think you care, because you haven't been taught to care. Would you like to hear more from me, or does it just annoy you?

Here's my input as a matter of courtesy, because you're not likely to hear anyting else that isn't pro:

Poker in casinos is first of all, a deck that is loaded in favour of the casino. And to even the odds by a skilled player is against the law. I'll leave the social aspects aside until you either ignore that or try to deal with it. Otherwise, I'm finished.

Cigarettes, Booze, strip clubs, Casinos, “dispensaries“ (dope houses), Whorehouses, all open now and Taxed into oblivion.

Might as well add in Heroin, Fentynal, Coke, downers, uppers, Meth…..MDA, mescaline, Peyote. Put the street dealing cartels on notice. Regulate and sell only the good clean stuff. Cartels & street thugs often cutting down to poison levels Of weird additives.

Let the good times flow.//

This is surely a political issue. Votes are being made all throughout the country on this issue. Politicians get involved. Asking this thread to be moved back to politics because that’s the most appropriate one seemingly.

If you’re interested, quote some of the points made in the original post and respond to those. Because I would be interested in your counter.

I’m not here to necessarily convince you, but to actually find out what you say in response to those who proposed to legalization of Poker rooms.

There’s organized crime in every aspect of life. People lose their way more often when they open up a business or a restaurant compared to playing a game of poker.

Poker is not a casino game. It is a game hosted by a casino where people play against each other. Some poker games are not hosted by a casino, but by a homeowner or a bar owner. Sometimes people just play poker against each other without a “rake”, which will be explained a little bit later in this post. This was already outlined in the original post. Roulette for example is a casino game hosted by the casino. The player is playing against the casino. Whereas in poker the casino is simply hosting the game and taking a rake from the game. They are not directly taking players money. Like in blackjack a player might bet five dollars or maybe even up to $1 million on one hand of blackjack… if they win the casino pays them if they lose they pay the casino. In Poker it is entirely Different, you are winning or losing against other players.

Donald layoff the personal attacks. That’s up to you if you wanna engage in such behavior I don’t do that to you. Don’t say things like “you don’t care”. I don’t say that about you. I’m here for a civilized conversation and I will do my best to act with civility as a Catholic and as someone who wants to be a gentleman. You will not see me talking down to other people who might be against the legality of Poker telling them “you don’t care.”

I am set in my position. And if you are as well, that’s totally fine. At this point, it is about you being by myself and other people in the video including conservative Christians, who believe that Poker should be legalized. So there’s a number of critical points to be responded to here some of which you have responded to others of what you have not. I’ve already outlined all of my points

I gave you my opinion, just because you don't like it, isn't my problem.

I’m not here for personal attacks or abuse. Only for a civilized discussion. Please by all means provide your opinion. I’m here for a civilized discussion.

It would be productive if you could quote the specific points made by myself or even people in the video(did you watch any of it?) and then respond to them using quotes. As I have directly responded to you using your own quotes.

As a Catholic and somebody who wants to be a gentleman, I will not be talking down to people or abusing them. And I will not be fostering a negative environment.

I responded to your point friend. Organized crime exists in all areas of life. There’s even criminals in churches… pastors who have stolen money from their attendance. But most church leaders are good people.

Folks Have a bigger chance of losing everything by opening up a restaurant or investing into a business… compared to playing a game of poker or walking through a casino.

And it would be different with a fixed location that advertised it's purpose, HOW?

.

Security on-site. Hate to say it but like a Casino. Not at Jimmy's house in the family room with cars suddenly parked all over. You don't hear casinos or Poker only, Low Ball houses being hit back to the 70s. But they take a cut to let you sit down and play in more safety.

Yes, agreed fully. Just like we have an FDA for oversight on the food we eat. Like we have regulations and licenses issued to folks who might open up a restaurant or establishment that sells alcohol.

There is also a measured gamble or risk taking when it comes to somebody opening up a restaurant or a business. There could be even an element of risk involved in a variety of things that could damage a business like a natural disaster or bad weather. Or many many things. Here’s the point there is clearly an undeniably level of risk involved when it comes to opening up a restaurant or a business. So therefore the people making the argument that Poker rooms should not be opened because of a possibility of somebody losing all their money…. They would have to apply the same logic to somebody opening up a restaurant or business.

I don’t think it’s in line with capitalism or American values for private citizens to be disallowed from opening up a restaurant or a business because of the risk of financial ruin.

That’s a good point. It’s similar to how banks or financial institutions, even restaurants and businesses have security on site often.
