We need to get over the idea that we have a "health care system". We don't. Systems are for socialists. We have a health care market, and it's being polluted and distorted by those trying to make it a "system".
That is a bit over simplistic, but it makes a nice sound bite.
We are more system than market these days, and that will not change.
The Govt, be it Fed or State set the rules and regulations for medical care and hospitals.
The Fed Govt via Medicare is the single largest payer for health care services in the country. As such their reimbursement rates to doctors and hospitals are what the insurance companies use to set their rates. This again is not going to change.
We have laws that force medical providers to give aid to those with life threatening conditions regardless of ability to pay. That would not happen in health care market. And that too will not change as "we the people" are not willing to see people just die to their economic situation.
