Whether you think it is a good thing or a bad thing, which candidate do you think is more likely to get us onto sustainable energy sooner? andhow soon.....

Both McCain and Obama have proposed plans that would invest in alternative energy such as wind, solar or nuclear power.

Obama has said he would ensure 10 percent of our electricity comes from renewable sources by 2012, and 25 percent by 2025, in part by investing $150 billion in 10 years to developing alternative energy sources.

McCain has said he will commit a $5,000 tax credit for those who buy a zero carbon-emission car to encourage automakers to build them.

He also wants to expand domestic oil drilling, while Obama supports releasing oil from the strategic reserve to provide some short-term relief at the pumps.

Ballard said plans to support the development of alternative fuel vehicles could give Michigan more jobs and help boost the auto industry.

"Both understand that there is not going to be one single solution or magic bullet," he said. "It's going to be a combination of conservation, alternative energy sources and probably more production domestically."
