There is no Immigration clause in our federal Constitution. All foreign nationals in the US should be known to the general Government and federally identified for civil purposes.

In my state and one other state, even those in prison, serving their jail sentence, can vote.

How do you verify who is a citizen and who isn't?

That's easy. Birth certificate or naturalization papers.
The point however is that the only thing that can be verified at the polling station is a voter registration card.
So that is the only thing that should ever be used for voting.
And I have never been issued a voter registration card in any state, that had a photo ID.
So any discussion of a photo ID is just fake.

Anyone who drives has a gvt issued photo id, including poorer people.

It's anyone who does not have access to a car and does not have a driver's license, where some difficulty arises for a select number of that group.

Again – your thread premise fails as a false comparison fallacy.

Whether it’s the right to vote or the right to possess a firearm, both are fundamental rights immune form burdensome government regulation – requiring an ID to vote is an unwarranted burden on that right, just as requiring a license to possess a firearm is an unwarranted burden on the right to bear arms.

...wrong --it doesn't fail--there are LIMITS on firearms/rights/etc ....people get FIRED for free speech/etc==plain and simple

Limits on rights have to be based on need to defend the rights of others.
There is no need for a photo ID or anything that costs money.

And by the way it IS illegal to fire someone for their free speech expression.
The only way to avoid getting sued over it is to not say why the person is being fired.
