Legislators could put vehicle travel limits into law to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The US, needs to do a thorough review of all transportation systems across the globe and determine which is the most efficient. Once they identify that system, then they need to know the best way of also improving it and incorporating it into our nation's system. Perhaps starting with an underground tube system that can magnetically transfer cargos that would normally be put on 18 wheelers, to relieve a lot of the traffic, more "bullet trains" like Japan has and mass transit systems that run from skyscraper to skyscraper in major metropolitan areas. Any other ideas out there?

That makes as much sense as shower flow limiters. My neighbor can turn on the hose all day long in the summer for their children to play in the sprinkler, and I'm all for it, but I can't take a hot shower with enough water flow to hit the muscles in my back after a day of hard work in the shop. The government is in control of what water enjoyment activities are allowed.

Now they'll be in control of which vehicle activities are allowed. My neighbor can drive to work alone but I can't take my family of 4 out on a drive - one person per mile or four persons per mile?

There's no logic or sense behind any government regulation intended to control people other than just to control people.

We don't live in the rest of the world. Our transportation needs are not like anyone else's. Nowhere in Europe is there a place where towns and cities might be so far apart or where populations travel so much by car. Even Australia, which is of a similar size, has a completely different transportation problem because, often, their towns or facilities are even further than those in the US.

To try to make us into Germany, or France, or the UK won't work. It's a different land, different economy, different people. I'm sick and tired of people telling us how Europe does it. Americans who want to be Europeans should go to Europe.

Look Attila to people like you, almost all normal people are libs. You don't impress anyone.

Democrats are not liberals; they're leftists, socialists even, but they are any thing but liberal. I remember when they actually were liberal and fought to end wars, to protect free speech, and to demand that government constrain itself within the Constitution. That was just a short period of time between Jim Crow laws and lynchings and the current socialist Democrats.. But it was nice while it lasted.

1. I've only "suggested" looking into the world's transportation system to see if traffic congestion can be reduced or improved.
2. I've only "suggested" copying Japan's "bullet train" use. It significantly reduces the travel time between cities, even cities far apart.
3. At no point have I told anyone what to do regarding transportation. I'm just throwing things out there for thought.
I have to regularly travel between cities and the state DOT, committed several years to one area that was regularly congested in an area in the city between where I travel from and the one I travel to. Upon the completion of the major project "to reduce congestion," the heavy influx of people into the area...completely negated all the work done and it's regularly congested again. Clearly, making more lanes and distribution changes, isn't solving the issue. Only finding other ways to solve the problem will work. One way, stop immigration altogether. A complete moratorium on the influx of peoples.

The article indicates the process is barely born. There was no mention of an actual mechanism that would reduce miles driven except stating that everyone should be within a half mile of a mass transit node (ie, bus stop). Legally forcing drivers to reduce miles would be an absolute nightmare to execute even if it didn't face enormous amounts of resistance and downright hostility from a lot of the population. The most obvious way to accomplish that end without ticketing people who drove too far is to simply add an excise tax on to everyone's gasoline. The money raised could be used for a dozen different things; either to further reduce Minnesota emissions or placate angry residents still hankering for that sunday morning cruise. How about car curfew hours? Several large cities facing traffic congestion problems have enacted measures like even-numbered plates on even dates and odd-numbered plates on alternate Tuesdays... ; - ).

And what of Republicans? Do you believe they are conservatives? And what might that have to do with the thread topic?

What's not in the US? Even-odd rationing? See Odd–even rationing - Wikipedia. It tells of such a system being used in the US during the second gas crisis of 1979 and in New Jersey and New York following Hurricane Sandy. Traffic congestion in Jakarta, Indonesia and New Dehli, India was addressed using such a system. If resistance to the whole idea could be overcome, even-odd would be a simple means of execution. I am not even thinking about how to address the resistance the American populace would have to restrictions on driving. That's a Gordian knot of the first order.

Well, let's see. First question: what does being a Republican have to do with being conservative? Do you believe all Democrats are communists?

Second question: If you'd read the quote I responded to, White 6 said that almost all normal people are libs - which is actually not a true statement. It's as naive a statement as is saying that Republicans are conservative.

I said to people like you, all normal people are libs. Not the same thing, kid. Get it right next time.
