No, Donald Trump Did Not Abandon Promise to Repeal Obamacare

The mainstream media are reporting that President-elect Donald Trump is giving up on his promise to repeal and replace Obamacare, because he said he would be willing to preserve coverage for pre-existing conditions and allowing children to stay on their parents’ health insurance until age 26.
“I like those very much,” Trump told the Wall Street Journal in an interview, following his meeting Thursday with President Barack Obama.

He’s not alone: those are some of the only parts of the law that are popular, and many Republicans have long since promised to preserve coverage for those with pre-existing conditions even after Obamacare is repealed.

Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI), for example, proposed a replacement for Obamacare in April that would cover people with pre-existing conditions by moving them into state high-risk pools.

In 2013, Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) proposed to repeal and replace Obamacare, introducing the “Empowering Patients First Act,” which provided for those with pre-existing conditions. “[T]o make sure no one is priced out of the health insurance market because of a pre-existing illness or injury, the Empowering Patients First Act provides for the creation of robust pooling plans that would ensure that any one person’s health status does not increase his or her costs or the costs of others in the same pool,” he wrote at the time.

Coverage for pre-existing conditions, and coverage for young people, are relatively minor parts of the overall architecture of Obamacare. Conservatives have long been willing to accept such provisions as compromises, the better to shore up political support for dismantling the system as a whole.

Trump merely stated the obvious.

I guess they didn't learn from the elections that they have become totally irrelvant. Trump will do what he said he will, and will deliver the results.

Coverage for pre-existing conditions is not a minor part of Obamacare. It will break the insurance companies and cause higher rates for the rest of us if people can hold off buying insurance until they get sick. That's just nuts! Pre-existing should be off the table when Trump kills Obamacare.

Let kids stay on parents insurance until 26. They're healthy anyway for the mist part. Male healthcare insurance private again and allow people to buy insurance across state lines. Do that and we'll never face being forced into single payer again.

The media (collectively) does not realize that normal people see right through their bullshit.

The jig is up. Trump broke their backs!

Every time he asked them to turn their cameras to show the crowd at his rallies, and they refused, he beat them.

The 4th estate is DEAD!

Unfortunately the American people are math challenged in general or they never would have let Obamacare pass. Even now, the average Pajama Boy and Obamaphone lady don't see the connection between forced coverages and skyrocketing premiums.

Young people rarely get sick so many insurance companies were already offering coverage for your kids in college, yet these twits credit Democrats for coming up with this "novel" idea.

But preexisting conditions is not cheap at all and if people on the wrong side of the actuary tables are pooled with the young and healthy, then everyone pays more. That means a healthy person who takes care of themselves is forced into the same risk pool as the morbidly obese smokers suffering from cascading illnesses.

The problem is that most kids aren't raised right these days. My father taught us that nothing comes free and also taught us to be suspicious of anyone that offered something for nothing. But millennials today missed out on those lessons so they foolishly believe in mythical things.....like "free" shit.

I think Trump knows that getting rid of Obamacare completely would anger a lot of Americans. Just like you trumpsters said, he's a smart man. Especially those who couldn't afford insurance prior to Obamacare. Covering people with pre existing conditions should be allowed. Some of these insurance companies will take your money and then drop you because you didn't disclose a cough you had 20 years ago.

Allowing kids to stay on parents insurance is reasonable as college tuition is a lot of money and most college kids need time after graduating to get a decent job with insurance.

It isn't like insurance companies are any better than the govt. Had it not been for decades of their illegal monopolizing, abuse, collusion with drug manufacturers and greed we would not have a situation for an asshole like Obama to force the disaster of Obamacare down the throats of the American people. For every action there is a reaction. Obamacare needs to be dismantled but if the no pre existing conditions and coverage up to the age of 26 is not part of any new plan the American people will again revolt at the ballot box.

Then where does that leave those with p/e's?
. They had better sign up before their ailment is known. Signing up after the fact is like buying house insurance after the tornado destroyed it. Mandating will bankrupt the industry and is the reason Obamacare is failing today.

Buy your insurance and you're covered. If you don't, then it sucks to be you. Besides, there are ways to accommodate p/e's as employer insurance plans currently do.

Elections have consequences. We won.

Per FoxNews...Mr. Trump said he favors keeping the prohibition against insurers denying coverage because of patients’ existing conditions, and a provision that allows parents to provide years of additional coverage for children on their insurance policies.

EXCELLENT!!!

This is exactly why I voted for Trump. He's going to fix this disaster known as Obamacare, but he's not a partisan hack.
He'll keep what makes sense and he'll take input from BOTH sides. Isn't this exactly what you want in a President.

So they're out of luck? No, they need to be covered. Mandating is out. There must be a way.
