Actually semiautomatic firearms were not all that popular before the ban. That’s why it was possible to ban them. The shooters liked accurate old fashioned bolt action rifles and never fail revolvers.

Of course the ban really didn’t ban anything as the manufacturers simply altered the firearms to pass the silly requirements. Even hi-cap magazines were readily available. If made before a certain date hi-cap mags were legal so the manufacturers worked three shifts 24/7 to turn out as many as possible before that date. Then they sold those magazines for a small fortune.

Once shooters discovered the AR-15 style rife was reliable and accurate and could be easily modified without requiring a gunsmith, the weapon sold like hotcakes. Semiautomatic pistols also improved as better quality means they no longer malfunctioned as often and they became light and compact for concealed carry.

Keep in mind that today in many big cities the police force has been depleted and has low morale. Someone is breaking into your home — you call the police — then you wait and wait and wait. It might be wise to have an AR-15 or a Glock 9mm pistol to protect yourself and your family from the home invaders. Try to take those firearms away and watch your Democratic Party lose seats in Congress.
