Would this be a bad concept for a sci fi TV show?

In this sci fi universe there would be huge interstellar powers that are like America, Europe, Russia, China, Japan, Brazil, etc. Along with these huge interstellar empires there would be lots of solar systems that are independent of these superpowers.

One of the solar systems is in chaos and is experiencing a civil war fought by different factions.

The show would focus on a rebel cell with a spaceship in a rebel group funded by one of the superpowers.

Star Wars Rebels for adults! Firefly with a touch of Game of Thrones?

What would you think? Bad idea? Would it be controversial?

Great idea. I guess that's why every other sci fi show has used the exact same storyline, but who knows, maybe you could come up with something to make it took original. Has anyone tried skinny green women in skimpy clothes yet?.

It would all depend on how it's written, how much intrigue there is et. Look at shows from the past of any genre and you'll see things that work and things that don't work. Star Wars was like a cowboy film with a few other things splashed in there, like good v. evil WW2 sort of thing.

No idea in itself is ridiculous, it's the writing, the plot lines, etc that make it or break it.
