Worst Presidents of the 20th century

Harding
Hoover
Nixon
Carter

President Harding was a tremendous President. He returned America to normalcy from the insanity of the Wilson Regime, reduced income tax rates and presided over an outstanding economic boom. The number of radios, home electrification and automobile sales mushroomed during the his term of office. The US Automobile based culture, the modern suburbs all were born during the fabulous presidency of Warren Gamaliel Harding.
Harding was not qualified or really interested in being President. He delegated running the country to his corrupt staff. Mostly, he looked forward to getting drunk at his nightly poker games.

Carter's presidency was pathetic. He presided over the destruction of Industry and a soul crushing Depression in the Rust Belt. President Carter sought to sow malaise, and was successful in his goal.
Carters weakness was he wanted too hard to gain a consensus and make everyone happy. In the face of a recession and inflation, he insisted on a balanced budget. One of the last we had.
What ruined him was the Iran Hostage Crisis. Easiest thing to do was take military action. It would have made him a hero. Instead, he went through a year of negotiations .....but got everyone out alive.

You ought to pick up "The Illustrious Life and Work of Warren G. Harding" by Thomas Russell, which paints a different picture entirely of our Tremendous 29th President. Harding was an astounding President, hardly the goldbricker you think he was. He died in San Francisco on the return from visiting Alaska, an arduous journey in the days before the government bought Air Force One.

Harding was a drunk who had little interest in the Presidency. Most unsuited man to be President until Trump.

President Harding had an almost unbelievable record of tremendous achievements for someone who was supposedly "drunk" and with little interest in the job. Harding had high blood pressure and cardiovascular problems and that's what led to his premature decedency in 1923. If you read the book on the man, you'd get a different impression entirely. Sure, Mr. Harding liked to have an adult beverage from time to time. But he was hardly a candidate for skid row.

Obama was the worst. Not only did he turn this country into one that accepted defying laws, but he set race relations back 60 years. Bush was right behind him. We're lucky to have Trump to clean up after these two menaces.

Neither of those fellows served in the 20th Century.

Wilson’s decision to send US troops won the war.
and gave us WW2 in return.

Interesting point.

It was the US entering the war with fresh troops and limitless supplies that turned the war to the allies. After Russia withdrew, the Germans were free to concentrate on the Western Front.

Without the US, Germany would have won. England would have limped back across the channel leaving France and Belgium under German control.

In this situation, the Nazis never would have risen to power.
But what would Europe have been like under German control?
Would Germany be satisfied or would they still have resorted to trying to conquer the rest of Europe?

Herbert Hoover deserves a call-out here ... much of the safety net put in place by FDR's New Deal policies is what kept us out of serious trouble during both recessions in the 1970's and 2000's ... things Hoover was loath to do ...

FDR's policies dragged the depression out almost a decade longer than it needed to be.

Ridiculous
When did you think the Depression should have ended? FDR didn’t take office until 1933

FDR's policies dragged the depression out almost a decade longer than it needed to be.

FDR came into office January, 1933 ... 3-1/2 years into the Great Depression ... and a decade later we're deeply involved with WWII ... perhaps you're confusing Hoover's lack of action with something FDR did years later ...

Hoover’s lack of action? I think you need to pick up a history book. Hoover’s actions are what brought on the depression and FDR basically took what Hoover did and doubled down on it and made it even worse

We entered a depression in 1920. Warren G Harding did pretty much the opposite of what FDR did and the depression ended by July of 1921

Now you are getting silly

Hoover was in office seven months when the stock market collapsed. Not much he could have done to cause it.

Hoover stood by waiting for prosperity to return. FDR went crazy in his first 100 days with new economic programs

1920-21 is a depression in New Speak now ... funny, back when I was a kid it was called a post war recession ...

Both my parents grew up during the Great Depression ... WPA put food on the table ... the opposite of what Harding and Hoover would do ...

Carter. There were counties here in Oregon with 25% unemployment during his Presidency.

He also emboldened Islamists everywhere through his weakness and his antisemitism set the stage for it spreading through much of the rest of the left.
