Not violating the letter of the law doesn't mean the spirit of the law was not violated.

"According to public reports, Atkinson was effectively removed from his position prior to the completion of the notice period. And in Trump’s letter informing Congress of his reasoning, he stated only that he had lost confidence in Atkinson. The bipartisan letter responds:
Congressional intent is clear that an expression of lost confidence, without further explanation, is not sufficient to fulfill the requirements of the statute. This is in large part because Congress intended that inspectors general only be removed when there is clear evidence of wrongdoing or failure to perform the duties of the office, and not for reasons unrelated to their performance, to help preserve IG independence."
How to Legally—and Illegally—Fire Inspectors General

What happened when Obama fired an IG?

"It (saying confidence in the IG was lost) is also the precise reason and language that President Barack Obama used in 2009 when he fired Gerald Walpin as inspector general of the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS), though the Obama White House within a week after the termination provided detailed reasons for the firing."
Legal Issues Implicated By Trump’s Firing of the State Department Inspector General

"In fact, Congress so closely guarded the independence of inspectors general that a move by Obama to abruptly oust the AmeriCorps IG in 2009 prompted a five-month investigation by Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and then-Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) that resulted in a 62-page report sharply criticizing the decision."
Trump's drive against watchdogs faces constitutional reckoning

Obama removed one IG, explained why in detail, and was investigated for 5 months.

Trump fires 4 IG's for clear reasons of retribution and refuses to explain why (so far).

Is this really what Trump fans voted for? A prez who regards himself to be accountable to no one.

I'll be shocked if Grassley does anything more than fart in Trump's general direction regarding this matter.

As past experience shows, if a Dem prez did this lights would be flashing, sirens would be blaring.

But this is the Trump admin. If Congress were to initiate an investigation in to every corrupt act committed by them Congress would have time for nothing else. And right now they are working on saving the country from Capt. Clorox's deadly response to COVID.

Not violating the letter of the law doesn't mean the spirit of the law was not violated.

If you can violate the spirit of the law without violating the letter of the law, the law is poorly written.

Go back and write it again or stop complaining.

Trump will go down in history as one of our most corrupt Presidents and neither he nor the Republicans in Congress really care. They are all collecting boatloads of campaign donations for misuse and embezzlement so there isn't much concern.

Are you suggesting Trump was unaware of the intent of the statutes pertaining to the protection of IG's against politically motivated retribution? If he was, he certainly is aware of them now after the bipartisan letter the WH received demanding an explanation for two of the 4 IG firings.

You wouldn't be skirting the issue, would you?

A dem president, O, did do this, in addition to many other atrocities and the R's sat around and did nothing.

1. Hillary Clinton's State Department did not even have an IG appointed, so no need to fire anyone. No democrat complaints then.

2. Atkinson allowed second hand information as "credible" which was not allowed before the ICIG changed the form, that shows political bias, Atkinson deserves to be fired. How can second hand information be deemed "credible"?

3. Just another berg TDS thread.

These miserable liberal left wing lunatics dream about Trump. He is their Boogeyman.

He chases them in their dreams.

Do you ever read the posts to which you are responding?

All the time. The response I gave is adequate for your liberal rag drivel.

If the democrats didn't have "double standards" they'd have no standards at all.
Your partisan whining means nothing when the truth is that whatever the democrats are bitching about, they are doing themselves, only much worse.

That would be Obama the most corrupt and Trump's critics the most inept.

But...........the facts show what you just wrote is the opposite of the truth.
