In the long run, monetary and energy sanctions against Russia may hurt us more than it hurts them. With no other energy alternatives, Germany and other European countries will be forced to come to some accord with Russia to supply their needs. (In the meantime, Russia can keep selling to China.)

If the U.S. cuts off all trading in Russian currency, what would stop Russia from trading in Chinese currency? Wouldn't this undermine the value of the dollar as the world's reserve currency?

Well, one thing we will find out soon enough. What it's like when a US president has an approval rating in the teens.

This is going to be miserable. Biden is an abject failure--everything feckless liberals THOUGHT Trump would be.

Trump said Biden was all talk and no show he was right. like Trump or not he was both talk and show.

Back to the topic- It seems like tariffs work better than sanctions. The former can counterbalance currency manipulation, whereas the latter encourage your adversaries to find other avenues for their transactions.

Above my pay grade, so far we seem to be handling it as well as possible, Who is so smart they can know about what will happen tomorrow.?

I seriously doubt Russian sanctions will hurt the USA. The US trades more with Chile, Columbia or Indonesia than with Russia.

Biden has played this Ukraine crisis brilliantly... It will be in history books on how to win a war without firing a shot... He has even got EU to take some leadership, that should get him some sort of lifetime achievement on its own...

Criticism of Biden comes from the same neck of the woods as people who tune into Tucker Carlson, Sorry but you are morally bankrupt...

Wall Street to the rescue:auiqs.jpg:

The Big Question on Wall Street Is Which Banks Owe $41 Billion on Credit Default Swaps on Russia

"}There is a known $41 billion in Credit Default Swaps (CDS) on Russian debt.

"There is likely many billions more in unknown amounts.

"There are also billions more in Credit Default Swaps on state-owned Russian corporate debt and non state-owned Russian corporate debt.

In addition to Wall Street not knowing which global banks and other financial institutions are on the hook to pay out on the Credit Default Swap protection they sold in case of a Russian sovereign debt default (or Russian corporate debt default), there is also approximately $100 billion of Russian sovereign debt (whose default is looking more and more likely) sitting on the balance sheets of foreign banks.

"Put it all together and you have the makings of a replay of the 2008 banking crisis when banks backed away from lending to each other because they didn’t know who would fall next from toxic subprime exposure.

"That led to a liquidity crisis and the unprecedented involvement of the Federal Reserve secretly pumping trillions of dollars into the megabanks on Wall Street and their foreign derivative counterparties."

A little pain is worth the gain, IF we help keep people alive who want a taste of the freedom to choose their own form of government.

Of course.. it’s going to get worse we need hunters lap top exposed
