I said to be a GOOD CEO you have to know business very well. A bad CEO generally doesn't last very long at job.

The CEO of Boeing is leaving with a 80 million dollar severance. For what? ALmost destroying the company?

He's leaving with it because that's what his contract stipulated he would get when he left. When a company signs a contract, say with a labor union to provide lavish retirement benefits to workers, it has to honor that contract even if it means the company goes broke.

1. The severance package doesn't mean the company appreciates the work the CEO did, it just means they paid what his contract demanded.
2. The CEO is leaving BECAUSE he nearly destroyed the company.
3. The CEO gets both blame and credit for what happens while he is in office, regardless of his immediate involvement. That's one reason why they negotiate those kinds of contracts, because they know if the market goes south they'll likely get fired.
4. That has absolutely nothing to do with how hard CEO's actually work, which is after all the topic.

His contract demanded it because people were stupid enough to agree to it. This is the way it works. It isn't the hardest worker that gets to the top . It's the one willing to make the bad decisions to appease Wall Street.

His decisions killed 350 people and almost destroyed Boeing (and it still might).

Of course it's not the hardest worker that gets to the top, it's the hardest working, smartest and luckiest that gets to the top. Again, that has nothing whatsoever to do with how hard CEO's work. I know you have it in for this one guy, but don't let that cloud your thinking about the position and what it requires. I'd guarantee you wouldn't last a week if you were dropped into that office.
