With the British navy unable to field ships to protect even local assets.....will the Falkland Islands be taken from them?

Someone once aptly described the Falklands Conflict as "Two bald men fighting over a comb".

The thing is, only about 1000 people live in the Falklands, but the British spend billions projecting power on the other side of the globe to maintain this last vestige of "Empire".

They could pay those people a one-time payout of 1 million each, and hand the Islands back to Argentina.

Milei is no Peronista and he is somewhat indebted to the Trump government. Though the Argentines are able to reclaim the Malvinas, it is unlikely there is any interest in doing so at this time.

That is not an apt description.

The purpose of government is first and foremost to protect its borders and people. The falklands are british and the people living there are british. If a government does not protect its own people and territory it does not deserve to exist.

The borders of the UK do not include the Malvinas.

In fact, the British were willing to turn the Malvinas over to Argentina in the 1970s.

Yes it does just as ours includes puerto rio and saipan

we should either make PR a state or let it be an independent country. Our grasping onto colonial possessions is just out of step in the modern era.

Of course, the reason we won't is because if we made PR a state, that would mean 8 more Democrats in Congress.

No we should not

The reason we do not is the voters of PR consistently vote to stay a territory and they are smart to do so. They get all the same right s and protections as everyone else but do not pay federal income tax. The modern era is meaningless.

The difference being is, the UK military is strategic, the US army is all brawn and no brains. Hence why you guys cried for help with Iran.

Yeah, so strategic they are lulling their enemies by making sure the navy can't float any ships.....

Argentina is even shittier than the UK when it comes to military, so no.

It's glaring that your history knowledge on the Falklands war is on par with your IQ, fecking zero -

During the 1982 Falklands War, a heavily outnumbered British Task Force—initially just 20 Sea Harriers—defeated a much larger Argentine air force, which committed over 120 combat aircraft. The British force grew to 28 Sea Harriers and 6 RAF Harrier GR3s, achieving a 23-0 air-to-air record against Argentine jets using advanced AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles.
British Harrier Numbers
Initial Force: 20 Sea Harrier FRS1s aboard HMS Hermes and HMS Invincible.
Total Deployed: 28 Sea Harriers and 6–10 RAF Harrier GR3s (ground attack).
Losses: 6 Harriers lost total (none in air-to-air combat; 2 to ground fire, 4 in accidents).

Argentine Jet Numbers
Total Combat Aircraft: Over 100 to 122+ combat jets (A-4 Skyhawks, Dagger/Mirage V, Mirage III, Super Étendard).
Total Aircraft: Over 200 total air force and naval aircraft.
Losses: Approx. 100 aircraft lost to all causes, with 20–23 confirmed destroyed in air-to-air combat by Harriers.

Key factors for the British victory included superior pilot training, the all-aspect AIM-9L Sidewinder missile, and operating from aircraft carriers, while Argentine pilots operated at the limit of their range.

You're not the only one, most on here are shit at history but regard themselves as experts. And you're just one of those useless clowns.
