This sermon by Jonathan Edwards addresses a very important subject. Edwards attempts to define what eternity, what severity, what torment awaits the soul that goes to hell and what is now the reality of those who went there hundreds - even thousands of years ago.... all those in hell (regardless of time spent there) are suffering unspeakable torment this very second.
Granted, hell is not a pleasant subject. But in light of the fact that we must spend eternity in one of two places - shouldn't we examine the evidence according to Scripture and consider the cost before deciding whether rebellion against God is really worth it?
Consider this first. While Satan may give you wealth, fame and power on this earth in exchange for your soul and a vow to serve him on earth... the eternal torments of hell you will suffer as a consequence of that decision will far outweigh any pleasure of sin you may temporarily enjoy upon the earth.
For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Matthew 8:36
You see, Satan was defeated by Jesus Christ at the cross of Calvary some 2,000 years ago and he doesn't have the keys to hell and death. Jesus Christ has the keys to hell and death. Therein, Satan knows that ultimately he is doomed - he's going to be cast into a most horrific torment in the lake of fire.
The reason Satan desires to take the souls of men (and women) to hell is to grieve the heart of God who did not create hell for mankind but rather for Satan and the fallen angels. Satan despises all mankind (even those who have sold their souls to him) because human beings are created in the image of God (see Genesis 1:26). So with that fact established - can a person who served Satan turn from their sin, repent and call upon the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to saved? Yes. Many ex-satanists, ex-witches, ex-witch doctors, and ex-Warlocks today have given testimony of the delivering power of God and the forgiveness of God through Jesus Christ.
Jesus paid the price for your redemption. Therein Satan cannot keep it from you. Only you can keep it from yourself by believing his lies. He is the father of lies. Why would anyone count on the father of lies telling the truth? Why would anyone count on the father of lies fulfilling a promise of immortality, ruler position in hell - being given god / goddess status when according to KJV Holy Bible Scripture Satan has no authority or power to fulfill any such promise to anyone after that one leaves the earth.... Please read this sermon and think about it....

By which also he went and preached to the spirits in prison, etc...
Two things it is my present purpose to observe concerning the spirits or souls of those wicked men that Noah preached to...
1. How long ago they lived.
2. How those souls are here spoken [of] as to their present state, spirits in prison.
DOCTRINE. Those wicked men who lived before the flood, and went to Hell in Noahs time, are there still.
