Why Washington Is the Best State in America

I was drafted into the Army and did my 8 weeks of basic training at Fort Lewis, Washington, just south of Seattle, near Tacoma, during the months of April and May.
The weather was very mild, sunny with blue sky. Guess I was there at the perfect time of the year.
Didn't get to go anywhere because we were restricted to the base, and had special white tags sewed onto our shirts. Seems we were close to the Canadian border and they didn't want any basic trainees fleeing to Canada in order to avoid being sent to Vietnam.
I remember there was a large snow capped mountain off in the distance. Some guys thought it was Mt. Rainier while others said it was Mt. Hood. Always wondered which mountain it was and how far away? ... :dunno:

My good friend moved to Seattle as an aeronautical engineer for Boeing. He says they have been robbed several times and the Leftists there think criminals shouldn't be prosecuted. Too expensive. Don't punish them for being poor, wah wah.

He can't wait to move out.

My wife's sister and husband moved from Fairbanks, Alaska to Orcas Island, Washington, a quiet town where people are civilized and polite, unlike Seattle and Portland, just across the Columbia River from Washington.

As a side note, I flew Alaska Airlines to Alaska and asked two lovely stewardesses which part of America had the rudest people, New York City?

No way, they replied. New Yorkers can take as good as they get. The Northwest has arrogant tree-huggers. They're the worst. From the mouths of experts.

Oh yeah if you are there the right time of the year it is absolutely gorgeous up there! But beginning in October for about 6 months it is the gloomiest most depressing weather you can imagine. I was there for 3 days in October and I couldn't get on the plane fast enough.

It depends on where you are on the economic scale and if you can withstand wet cold gloomy days for months without going insane.
Do you think your state is the best? Which state is better? Maybe California. I could see Floridians thinking Florida is better. Texans too but no way. What state is better than Michigan?
Yeah, I've been told that CALIF, the abbreviation of California stands for "Come And Live In Florida" :)
I watch mountain men. Tom Oars family wants him to move from Montana to Florida. He does not want to go. They have fishing boats on the ocean, but it’s not the same as being in the wilderness.

Maybe if he moved to the Everglades.

Your state is being over run with iguanas. What’s up with that?

And Boa Constrictors. Best stay away!

Mt Rainier is to the south of Lewis McChord in Washington State, then Mount St Helens, still in Washington and Mt. Hood is in Oregon so you were probably looking at Rainier.

That's the Joint Base Lewis-McChord. I've been near that area, never on base. They have a different jurisdiction there, and MS-13 gangsters from my hometown who work at U.S. Marshal Service have the ability -- or they have attempted -- to pull too many strings to try to get me arrested in some military or federal jurisdictions.

Seattle's "civil" legal system is to regularly drug personnel on leave from base and then pick them up for felony DUI etc. Washington's civilian court system works like a court-martial, because in spite of the U.S. Constitution, the due process requirement of a grand jury indictment is omitted even for civilian felony charges not arising within the armed forces.

Yep, Washington State, a wonderful place to live.

Maybe that’s a good thing. If they can’t afford it move to Seattle.
It Might be a good thing, except it's taxpayers moving out and tax consumers moving in.
This is unregulated capitalism. As the Libertarians will tell you don't worry about it. Let the market decide. If you can't afford to live in California don't. Sounds like you all wish you could live in California but you can't afford the taxes so if you are not a tax payer move on.

I used to own a python. Not afraid. I'm afraid of your cougars, alligators, poisonous snakes and spiders.

Another reason why MI is the best state. Besides all the reasons I mentioned previously, we only have rattle snakes. And I've only seen 2 my entire life. No scorpions and spiders like Texas. We also don't have sharks in our waters. Or salt.

And all we get is a rare tornado that usually only tears up a trailer park. We don't have hurricanes, earthquakes that are dangerous, tsunami's,

oh i did not need too?....that seems like you know that people from that area moved there ....like you did and then you moved away after you got what you came for...
I moved there with my family, knothead, and lived there for well over forty years. It's hardly like we came and sucked California dry and then moved on.
I went to school there, worked there, bought and sold multiple homes and paid my state taxes there. And when I retired early, so I could leave a state that had become hopelessly corrupt and degraded I moved on, like so many other Californians.
Just how stupid are you, anyway?
Did California suddenly become corrupt so suddenly you decided to move away? Or did you rack up enough in that state so you could afford to retire early but only if you moved away?

What state did you move to? Why didn’t you work in that state? Because that state doesn’t have jobs that pay as well as you made in California.

Hey I don’t blame you for cutting and running. I would to.

I kno there are lower tax states than Michigan but I’m not going to move to a red state when I retire so I can save money. That would suck. But if I do I’m not going to cry about how taxes drove me out. Or maybe I will. Like Trump I might move to Florida or at least make Florida my primary residency.

I spent the last 2 weeks traveling through out central America and the west coast.

It was an eye opener.

Yes they have low taxes. They also have empty ghost towns. Their roads are a mess in fact the road in Arizona destroyed a little over 4 month old tire on my car. It literally blew up on that horrible road.

The cities are dirty and depressed. They don't tax the people properly so they don't have the money to properly run their state. They've taken what little tax dollars they collect from the rural areas and spent it on the urban cities. Which are better off than the rural areas but compared to California and Washington, those cities are a total mess. Their roads are a mess. You have to pay tolls just to drive on the roads.

Every time I go to a red state it reminds me how lucky I am to live in a blue state and am very happy to pay the taxes.

We actually get something for paying those taxes. Our rural small towns aren't all run down and dying. Our cities are growing by leaps and bounds.

Not paying much in taxes has left those red states in a horrible mess which makes me very happy I live in Washington were we at least close to properly tax the people of our state so it's not a run down and poverty stricken mess like so many red states.

The blue states I went through had road projects to rebuild the roads. The red states didn't.

The minute I crossed over from Arizona to California it was like a miracle. Interstate 40 immediately became flat and smooth. I was no longer bouncing down the road as I drove. Apparently the red states I went through don't know how to make a flat smooth road for people to drive on. So they have to regularly spend money on new tires, alignments on their cars and other repairs caused by driving on those horrible roads. The tow trucks and car mechanics are making a bunch of money but most everyone else isn't because their wages are so depressed and low.

As my mom used to say "you get what you pay for." In the case of red states and taxes, you don't get what you don't pay for. As in you get nothing but a polluted run down dirty mess that people are abandoning.

Before the Liberals took control of California, it was darn near paradise. Now more people are leaving than moving there.
Maybe that’s a good thing. If they can’t afford it move to Seattle.

It's a very good thing.

We don't want deadbeats who take from our society but will fight to the death to prevent from giving back or even paying for what they take.

That's the conservative, they want everything but they don't want to pay for it. They don't pay for it so they live in what trump called "shithole" states.

We don't want them here. We want only people who contribute to our society not just take, take and take more.

We don't have a state income tax in Washington. We have other taxes but there is no state income tax here.

The Seattle area doesn't represent the whole state of Washington. Plenty of great places and unspoiled lands in the eastern part of the state. Spokane is a nice smallish city whose metro area includes part of Idaho - another beautiful state. A little cold in the winter but the spring, summer, and fall make up for it.

I'd rather be in the northern U.S. than in the hot sultry humid Florida panhandle, y'all.

what a croc of shit.....California has a lot of shitty roads.....

Amen. I lived there for thirty years. I should know.

Washington IS the best state in the union, in my opinion. But they have a jackass governor and the fools
in the Seattle metro area are pushing their brainless woke Marxist b.s. on the rest of the state through
the leftist legislature.

It will wind up a wasteland like California too in time. The fascist authoritarian socialists will spread their
disease everywhere if not resisted.

I have friends who moved to that "wonderful" State. Hell they lasted six months before moving back to Florida.

Washington State is great if you like gloom, rain and no sun.

No thanks. I'll take Florida.
That's the coast. Don't make the mistake of thinking all of Washington is like that.

At least according to US News and World Report.

I have to agree with them. Washington is the best state in America.

Why Washington Is the Best State in America

I lived in Washington State for seven years while working at Hanford.

The Cascades are absolutely beautiful. The desert side no so much so.

I came back to Florida when my job was ended but if I had to stay there it would have been fine. Good place to live? Yes! Best? No!

As I was leaving the place was starting to get overrun with Illegals.

The people on the East side of the Cascades are good Conservatives. The people on the West side are batshit crazy Moon Bats.

Washington, like Oregon, should be two states divided by the mountains.

Maybe Eastern Washington and Eastern Oregon could be one state and then the stupid Moon Bats can have the other area.

i lived there for 50....the 5 and 91 freeways were getting pretty bad.....dana must have had a map with all the "good" roads on it....

USNWR? Not only does US News-world report not cover actual news, it doesn't even publish anymore. My guess is that Washington State paid the blog to be a cheer leader since the bad publicity of constant riots and a headquarters for radical groups like OWS. I had occasion to visit Seattle a couple of years ago and was shocked at the once beautiful parks taken over by junkie drunk squatters. I expect it's even worse today.
