There are more than 12,000 corporate lobbyists that work Congress on a daily basis.

"Imagine a bold headline blaring, "An Army of 1,500 Lobbyists Swarms Capitol Hill."

"But that wouldn't be news, since it happens every day. In fact, an occupying army of Gucci-clad corporate lobbyists is permanently encamped in Washington, numbering not a mere 1,500 — but more than 12,000. Yes, that works out to nearly 22 lobbyists for every member of the House and Senate, and they come armed with explosive levels of campaign cash to keep lawmakers toeing the corporate line."

Corporate Lobbyists Challenged by a Growing ‘Populist Lobby’

John Boehner was a notorious suck up to lobbyists, even one time passing out tobacco company checks on the House floor prior to a vote.

"Lobbyists enjoy access to establishment politicians of both major parties. But Boehner leaves behind a career that is marked by a particularly extreme coziness with K Street.

"He was once caught handing out tobacco industry campaign checks on the House floor before a vote on tobacco legislation.

"In 2009, Boehner slowed down House proceedings to allegedly attend the “Boehner Beach Party,” an annual event hosted by lobbyists. Before he became speaker, Boehner served as the House GOP contact for regular meetings with lobbyists and convened a weekly meeting with lobbyists called the “Thursday Group.”

"And for a period of time, Boehner rented a Capitol Hill apartment from a lobbyist.

"As he raised millions from corporate political action committees, Boehner encouraged lobbyists to have a direct influence over the policy process. Under Speaker Boehner, the reverse revolving door became a blur, with more and more corporate lobbyists hired to manage the day-to-day business of key congressional committees and to serve as senior staff.

"Boehner at one point called on bank lobbyists to be more aggressive when dealing with congressional staff, declaring: “Don’t let those little punk staffers take advantage of you.”

"Even with a Boehner exit, lobbyists probably will not despair. House Majority Leader Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., whose chief of staff is a former lobbyist and who is also known for his ties to the lobbying establishment, is expected to replace Boehner.

"Speaking to Roll Call, John Feehery, a former GOP aide who now lobbies, was nonchalant about the shift. Boehner “had a very close relationship with K Street — that’s just kind of how it is,” Feehery said, adding, “McCarthy’s got a lot of good contacts on K Street, too.”

Lobbyists Mourn House Speaker John Boehner's Departure

So despite Boehner being run out of the Speakership, the only serious candidate for the Speakership is another suckup to corporate lobbyists, McCarthy.

Is it any wonder that corporations are now spending more than $2 billion to run their lobbying operations on Congressional Hill?

Is it any wonder that almost all job creation since 2000 went to foreign immigrants, legal and illegal that work for corporations?

All Employment Growth Since 2000 Went to Immigrants

And Silicon Valley IT corporations already have a very cozy relationship with McCarthy.

Silicon Valley would welcome Kevin McCarthy as new House speaker

Silicon Valley sees ally in McCarthy

How in Gods Name, is the GOP so owned and controlled by corporate cronyism that the only serious candidate, even one so ham-fisted and inept as McCarthy, is the only one considered to have a chance to become Speaker?

Makes me think that the real enemy is not Russia, it is not ISIS, it is not the Chicoms and their internet launched attacks on every government server on the planet, no, the real enemy of the American people are the massive corporations that have taken control of our elected officials, to include Obama all the way down to the newest hack in Congress.

How Corporate Lobbyists Conquered American Democracy

"Today, the biggest companies have upwards of 100 lobbyists representing them, allowing them to be everywhere, all the time. For every dollar spent on lobbying by labor unions and public-interest groups together, large corporations and their associations now spend $34. Of the 100 organizations that spend the most on lobbying, 95 consistently represent business."

Not be be a jerk but the thread title is not proper. Your thread demonstrates that the republicrat house is corrupt.

Everyone knows that.

It was just as corrupt when the democrooks controlled it if not more so.

The reason why it is corrupt regardless of who controls it is simple.

It has too much power. It has too much access to the wealth of the greatest supply of productivity in the world.

The only solution is to reduce it's power and access.

That might take a coronal mass ejection though.

You are not being a jerk, you are simply contributing a contrasting viewpoint. I think the corruption of the past, however, was not nearly so bad as what we face today.

"One has to go back to the Gilded Age to find business in such a dominant political position in American politics. While it is true that even in the more pluralist 1950s and 1960s, political representation tilted towards the well-off, lobbying was almost balanced by today's standards. Labor unions were much more important, and the public-interest groups of the 1960s were much more significant actors. And very few companies had their own Washington lobbyists prior to the 1970s. To the extent that businesses did lobby in the 1950s and 1960s (typically through associations), they were clumsy and ineffective. “When we look at the typical lobby,” concluded three leading political scientists in their 1963 study, American Business and Public Policy, “we find its opportunities to maneuver are sharply limited, its staff mediocre, and its typical problem not the influencing of Congressional votes but finding the clients and contributors to enable it to survive at all.”

"Things are quite different today. The evolution of business lobbying from a sparse reactive force into a ubiquitous and increasingly proactive one is among the most important transformations in American politics over the last 40 years. Probing the history of this transformation reveals that there is no “normal” level of business lobbying in American democracy. Rather, business lobbying has built itself up over time, and the self-reinforcing quality of corporate lobbying has increasingly come to overwhelm every other potentially countervailing force. It has also fundamentally changed how corporations interact with government—rather than trying to keep government out of its business (as they did for a long time), companies are now increasingly bringing government in as a partner, looking to see what the country can do for them."

How Corporate Lobbyists Conquered American Democracy

And to my OP main point is that Boehner was particularly corrupt with crony capitalists lobbyists, exceeding the past scandals by several orders of magnitude and the House GOP is brain dead about why this is outraging millions of Americans even in their own party. That the GOP offers no opposition to Boehners corporate lobbyist wingman becoming Speaker is further proof of how bad the situation has become, and how close to expiring our Republic has become.

I don't know how familiar you are with the old Roman Republic and how it died, but essentially the international traders of that time wanted a dictator to deal with instead of an entire Senate, and pushing Caesar forward was their way of making it only one man they had bribe and seduce with gifts.

Are we going to sit idly by and watch our Republic die as well? I don't think we will but how long it will take to defeat this corporate monolith and roll it back remains to be seen..

That would slow down the corporate crony network, but it wont stop it. We have to purge all corporate contributions from our political system.

The libtards love the current GOP leadership ion the House and Senate, in fact they have stated that if either Boehner or McConnell were challenged that they would support the current leadership.

That is because the corporations own the Dems as much as they own the GOP and they will pull all stops to keep control.

net-confederate insurrectionists are so funny

I've lobbied Capitol Hill on several occasions as part of an industry coalition. I'm just an old drunk who put on a suit and tie, made my pre-arranged appointments, spoke my mind, and went back home after a few days.

I'd like to be a full time paid lobbyist. I think it's a hoot. Very fast paced, challenging, and rewarding. Oh man- and the D.C. babes are hot hot hot.

States' rights - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

"In 2009-2010 thirty-eight states have introduced resolutions to reaffirm the principles of sovereignty under the Constitution and the 10th Amendment; 14 states have passed the resolutions. These non-binding resolutions, often called "state sovereignty resolutions" do not carry the force of law. Instead, they are intended to be a statement to demand that the federal government halt its practices of assuming powers and imposing mandates upon the states for purposes not enumerated by the Constitution.[4]

"States' rights and the Rehnquist Court[edit]
"The Supreme Court's University of Alabama v. Garrett (2001)[32] and Kimel v. Florida Board of Regents (2000)[33] decisions allowed states to use a rational basis review for discrimination against the aged and disabled, arguing that these types of discrimination were rationally related to a legitimate state interest, and that no "razorlike precision" was needed." The Supreme Court's United States v. Morrison (2000)[34] decision limited the ability of rape victims to sue their attackers in federal court. Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist explained that "States historically have been sovereign" in the area of law enforcement, which in the Court's opinion required narrow interpretations of the Commerce Clause and Fourteenth Amendment.

"Kimel, Garrett and Morrison indicated that the Court's previous decisions in favor of enumerated powers and limits on Congressional power over the states, such as United States v. Lopez (1995), Seminole Tribe v. Florida (1996) and City of Boerne v. Flores (1997) were more than one time flukes. In the past, Congress relied on the Commerce Clause and the Equal Protection Clause for passing civil rights bills, including the Civil Rights Act of 1964.[22]

"Lopez limited the Commerce Clause to things that directly affect interstate commerce, which excludes issues like gun control laws, hate crimes, and other crimes that affect commerce but are not directly related to commerce. Seminole reinforced the "sovereign immunity of states" doctrine, which makes it difficult to sue states for many things, especially civil rights violations. The Flores "congruence and proportionality" requirement prevents Congress from going too far in requiring states to comply with the Equal Protection Clause, which replaced the ratchet theory advanced in Katzenbach v. Morgan (1966). The ratchet theory held that Congress could ratchet up civil rights beyond what the Court had recognized, but that Congress could not ratchet down judicially recognized rights. An important precedent for Morrison was United States v. Harris (1883), which ruled that the Equal Protection Clause did not apply to a prison lynching because the state action doctrine applies Equal Protection only to state action, not private criminal acts. Since the ratchet principle was replaced with the "congruence and proportionality" principle by Flores, it was easier to revive older precedents for preventing Congress from going beyond what Court interpretations would allow. Critics such as Associate Justice John Paul Stevens accused the Court of judicial activism (i.e., interpreting law to reach a desired conclusion).

"The tide against federal power in the Rehnquist court was stopped in the case of Gonzales v. Raich, 545 U.S. 1 Template:2009 in which the court upheld the federal power to prohibit medicinal use of cannabis even if states have permitted it. Rehnquist himself was a dissenter in the Raich case."

In Uber fight, London may mandate five-minute wait for a ride

"Uber Technologies Inc. faces a severe threat to its business in London as the U.K. capital’s authority for transport matters plans a wholesale overhaul of the rules governing the private car hire trade, including an English-language requirement for drivers and a mandatory five-minute wait time between ordering a ride and pickup."

Cant have private business out-performing government connected-sanctioned business, now can we?

And Jeb Bush is a prime example...

... would imagine his push to end the export ban on oil...

... will make him right popular...

... with his family's oil baron cronies...

... even though it will drive up the prices of domestic oil and gas.

The Bush-Clinton dynasties are a symptom of the corporate cronyism that now controls our country. Corporations have no respect for the law, a democratic Republic nor the will of the people, and so they seduce, corrupt and abscond with anything they can.

Look for a server of any politician... The truth is out there.

More great news.

Trey Gowdy agrees to run for Majority Leader

Chaffetz pitches Gowdy for GOP leader

"House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah) is urging Rep. Trey Gowdy (R-S.C.) to run for majority leader — a move that would complicate an already tough contest between two red-state conservatives....
Chaffetz said he has recently spoken to Gowdy, who is open to running for the No. 2 job in leadership. "I actually think he'll do it if we get behind it and support it," Chaffetz said on Fox News Tuesday morning. "But I think Trey Gowdy as the majority leader would be heaven sent."
