Government has failed because that's the nature of governments. That is precisely why freedom is so important. It's why our founders created a government with limited authority.

That's a rather odd assessment of the essential tool societies require for peace, prosperity and probably more important, civil order. Wingnuts like Avatar assume freedom equals some sort of utopian order in which everyone acts honestly and in the best interests of all. They do this by thinking of themselves - now think about that for a moment and check just a tiny bit of recent corruption news and you realize it is a laughable assumption.

But on topic, I've always thought if the playing field for all was as it is for working people then people would gain some empathy or at least some sense of reality. Allow the walmart mentality into the professional fields and areas. Make drug companies compete against any drug maker who copies and steals. Same as the stuff made in China copied from craftsman around the world and sold to Americans who want cheap at walmart. Buy Canadian or Mexican or Mom's kitchen remedies and we'll see how fast the corporate elitist lobbyists play another fiddle.

You are not one to preach about Government, you would have us living in a socialist system that takes from everyone and the power mongers get it all. We the people would be slaves to the Government.

Government by nature is inefficient and seeks to gain more power, EVERY single type. Depending on Government to float you is retarded as hell. Everything they do costs more and rises faster each year in costs then private enterprise.

Our government is beholding to special interests because we have set up our pols to NEED the support of special interest to get elected.

This problem is one of a myriad of problems manifesting because we have basically set up our government to reward corruption under the guise of legal campaign financing.

FREEDOM (unless you define freedom as the freedom to bribe our pols) has very little to do with it.

Let's see you worked for the government, which paid you with money they got bytaxing people working in the private sector, and now you are apparently recieving retirement benefits from the government which is still paying you by taxing people who work in the private sector, too.

Seems to me that government system (which you mistakenly apparently think is socialist) has served you fairly well.

well that article makes me angry. shows that special interests rule washington and that apparently our congressmen vote for things they dont understand and can be manipulated fairly easily

Burton said he and others were misled. "Within two weeks after the bill was passed, everybody knew it was gonna cost well over $500 billion," he says. "And many members of the Congress [who] had voted for it said, 'I would never have voted for it had I known that.' "

Medicare Chief Actuary Richard Foster later told Congress that he revised the cost estimate to $534 billion before the vote, but was told to withhold the new numbers if he wanted to keep his job.


It is but one example of the incestuous relationship between Congress and the industry, and just one of the reasons the pharmaceutical lobby almost never loses a political battle that affects its bottom line.

In January, one of the first things the new Democratic House of Representatives did was to make it mandatory for Medicare to negotiate lower prices with the drug companies.

But a similar measure was blocked in the Senate, due in part to the efforts of the drug lobby.

One doubts RetiredGovernmentWorkerPerson has thought his post through that deeply, Busara.

This man, who claims to have had an entirely socalist career working for the military. and now living on retirement checks from the government, seems to think that he is a credible spokeman for unbridled capitalism or something.

According to what I read from his pen, everyone but him is a liberal, which he seems to think actually means they are socialists or communists or something.

The solution to corrupt government is not LESS GOVERMENT, it's cleaning up the corruption in government.

Of course if we REALLY did that, government would probably be MUCH smaller than it already is.

And a whole lotta fat cats would be far less powerful and rich than they are today, too.
