why is there something rather then nothing?

Space has background temperature to it from having its own density when void of matter and energy. If nothing existed at all then the heat and density of space would have to expand infinitely fast, and even if that was possible the temperature and density of space could always be less. So though you can measure infinity by large and small you can't have an infinite negative temperature or density or 'nothing at all' because there could always be something less.

I think you got it backward. There was nothing then something.

Is nothing sacred?

There may be universes where an ultimate cold void exists. There may be universes that are singularities of infinite heat. Either one would not have life that would evolve to ask "why". On an infinite continuum every combination of natural laws would exist. The ones with intelligent life would wonder why things are set up so perfectly for them when really they are just a product of random chance in the multi-verse.

Hmmmmm. Taking metaphysics this quarter?

Do you know why?
The cold temperature of space in our universe is massively hot compared to the space of our outside universe that hosts the multiverse. Heat and density are the same thing, the universe probably has a super structure in its middle that provides the density and heat for space. Do you understand that heat can exist at a standstill and isn't always radiating?

It hovers just slightly above Absolute Zero.

How did you measure that?

Heat and density are the same thing,
What if I put a diamond in my freezer?

Do you understand that heat can exist at a standstill and isn't always radiating?
Heat is energy. It is measured by its radiation.

How do you know there was nothing? Maybe there has always been something.
Right. The only people who insist otherwise do so on a religious basis. Which is ironic, as they are basically saying nothing can be eternal...

...except their sky daddy.

And nothing can come from nothing...

....except their sky daddy.

So in insisting nothing is eternal and that nothing can come from nothing, they present their evidence as something that is eternal and came from nothing.

Good luck making sense of it.

And we say so since a very long time. It's by the way much more complex. In the first 300 years the "question" of people like you had been: "What did god do before he created the world?" 'We' - stupid as we are, superintelligent superbeing - needed about 300 years to find out that this question made not any sense, because "before" the time had been created existed not any "before".

So in insisting nothing is eternal and that nothing can come from nothing, they present their evidence as something that is eternal and came from nothing.

Sense is not the problem - an egocentralized senselessness of the souls in a valueless world without values (example: frustrated nihilism) and/or with wrong values (example: racist darwinism) are for example real problems.

I wouldn't worry about something.

Once you die, there's nothing.

But before you was born was something which became you. ... And if you take a look now: What do you see what will come after you?

But there was God, and God isn't nothing.
We say "God created/creates everything out of nothing". We do not say god is nothing and we do not say god is everything. ... ... ... And we say god is a child in a manger ...

If you cannot reason out values and morality on your own without having them dictated to you by an iron age book of mythology, that's your problem.

Of course that's false anyway, and your morality comes almost entirely from where and when you were born. Your iron age book of magic has very little to do with any of that.
