In particular, what does the Bible say about why God created the universe? Please respond with a passage from the Bible explaining why God created the universe.

there does not exist passages in any of the desert bibles properly describing the evolution of the universe, beginning or otherwise ... or a verifiable solitary figure's use for that purpose.

the multitudes of mythology with as may creators as creations is by far the most accurate description of the metaphysical forces and their involvement for all that exists in the universe and its creation.

Isaiah 43:7 notes that God said He created some people for His glory. From this we can take the next step ourselves: The universe reflects the glory of God. God is Creator, and Creators create. What God created reflects His glory and His majesty...it reveals who He is.

I'm asking for the why, not the evolution.

That might explain what the universe does, but doesn't explain why God created it. Why did God need/want his glory to be reflected?

Do need/want even enter into it? A Creator creates, and that creation can be a reflection, not of need or want, but of who the Creator is. Consider your own life and the things you do. Perhaps focus on the times you have automatically extended a hand. Was this because you needed or wanted something? Or was it because that's just who you are?

each creator has their own reason for their creation most would surly be acceptable to the heavens and those that are not seem destined to perish - the dead ends for may known biological anomalies as well dying stars, supernovas and other examples throughout the universe.

the desert's version of monotheism as a single creator is only their projection of servitude and denial than any plausible method for the universes existence.

liberation theology, self determination what jesus taught is in itself polytheistic for all to be creators to succeed including setting free their spirits and admission to the everlasting.

Genesis chapter 1 Verse 1-2

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness covered the surface of the watery depths, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

Some people say that means the first earth was destroyed & God created it again. There was a period of time between verse 1 and verse 2. And the earth was wiped out in that time.

If there is any truth to that...Earth must be pretty darn important to God...to create the Earth again after it was destroyed.

primordial earth ... not a lot of water found on its surface - or anywhere else.

Moses 1:39
39 For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.

I believe that, firmly.
1. In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
An unknown number of years passed until verse two:
2. And the earth BECAME without form and void.

And water covered the earth.
Some of us believe the earth was put in this position as a result of the war the angels launched against God. Those angels were given earth, but Lucifer became corrupt and led the rest of the angels on earth to sin and to join his rebellion to take heaven. He lost, BIGLY, and was cast back down to the earth.

He remains here today until Man fulfills his ultimate purpose

Not only did God create the earth...But He sent His only begotten Son to suffer and be executed so that we might be saved.
