Why Do Liberal Democrats Think Trump Can't Pardon Himself?

No, they haven't, because no president has ever done such an unethical thing....Nixon came close..... but no cigar!
I doubt the supreme court would determine the founding fathers of the Constitution, planned for criminal presidents to grant pardons to themselves for their own crimes, when the constitution says presidents can be prosecuted after impeachment from office....every president could just pardon themselves and live in lawlessness....
Would the supreme court really set precedent for every president to be lawless their entire term with no fear of ever being prosecuted for their crimes? Heck no!
We are a Nation of laws, not men.
Trump appointed Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, and Barrett. They are on his side.
"No man can judge his own cause"

As president, making the judgement that a pardon or clemency is deserved by a criminal....and the President granting such pardon to the repentant criminal is absolutely within his presidential power...

However, it can not be granted, to himself.... because no man can be a judge in his own cause...

(He doesn't have the power to forgive his own sins, (crimes) he's not allowed to make that judgement...No man is allowed to do such, legally)

Nemo judex in causa sua (or nemo judex in sua causa) is a Latin phrase that means, literally, "no-one is judge in his own cause." It is a principle of natural justice that no person can judge a case in which they have an interest.

Yes. That was the basis for the DOJ concluding Nixon could not pardon himself. But it's never been decided in a court. And Richard Posner's opinion was that a president could pardon himself. But there's a link to the constitution center I put up that considers different opinions. There's also an article in the Atlantic (where you can look a three free articles a month) that discusses "original intent" and the 18th century use of the verb "grant."

Imo allowing a president to pardon himself is counter-intuitive. Presidents CAN be impeached, convicted and removed from office. The constitution doesn't say they're above the law; it says the opposite. They can be prosecuted in Court. The Supreme Court only held in the 1990s that Clinton could be sued, but in the last two years they seem to say Trump cannot be. There's no doubt they can be sued and tried and even put in jail AFTER they are not president anymore.

Gerald Ford did the profile in courage thing when he pardoned Nixon. Nixon was politically destroyed and lost all power. Nothing positive could come from him being sent to a country club prison for a few months.

But the federal govt is not going to prosecute Trump. Biden's not even going to let the DOJ pursue Trump for back taxes.

Why does it matter whether Trump can pardon himself?

He cannot pardon himself for violations of State laws. It's the State of New York that's Trump's biggest problem.

Perhaps his attempt to interfere with the 2020 elections in several states that could lead to prosecutions in those states.

LOSER LOSER
rump is losing to Biden again and again in a desperate attempt to avoid being forever labeled a loser
Writing in the Washington Post this Monday, columnist Eugene Robinson says that President Trump is suffering loss after loss to President-elect Joe Biden in his attempt to overturn the election’s results. “Trump was declared the loser slightly after Election Day; he loses repeatedly and decisively in court; he loses in recounts and then demands re-recounts, which he will also lose,” Robinson writes. “So much losing!”
According to Robinson, Trump’s motivation may be the fact that Republicans in general did well in 2020, whereas he did not, getting “creamed” by 6 million votes.

In Trump’s egocentric worldview in which absolutely everything is about oneself, the danger lies in the fact that he “sees himself as the boss and sees all those for whom he has done favors as his vassals,” Robinson writes.
“Trump’s exit, obviously, is anything but quiet. The question is how much of the scenery he will chew as he struts and frets his way from center stage to the wings where he belongs.”

The only thing I want to see is MASS ARRESTS of those that have perpetuated this hoax and agitprop regarding vote fraud. This election was one of the MOST SECURE EVER... and those lying and publicly describing widespread fraud (while NOT suggesting any fraud inside courtrooms) are actively destroying American democracy.

and again, there needs to be mass arrests and prosecution under the treason act.. all the way down to the deckplate level... and swift sentencing, no delays... let them appeal on their own dollar..

If Trump were prosecuted by a bunch of rabid Trump-hating state AGs after he left office, it would effectively make him a martyr in the eyes of half the country. The Dem establishment wants no part of martyring Trump even more than he already has been. They want to pull some of those voting blocks back into the fold, not alienate them further.

The liberal media are tripping over each other trying to claim Trump can't pardon himself. There is nothing in the Constitution saying the president can't pardon himself.

---Trump probably can't pardon himself. He may still try---

Barrett refused to tip her hand, and she will be there if this case ever gets to the Supreme Court. Obviously she and others there will be on Trump's side.

What shall he pardon himself for?
Do you not think that the use of a pardon by a criminal elected is an abuse of power?
The Deep State will still be after Trump. You can't blame Trump for giving a pardon to himself.
