The liberal media are tripping over each other trying to claim Trump can't pardon himself. There is nothing in the Constitution saying the president can't pardon himself.

---Trump probably can't pardon himself. He may still try---

Barrett refused to tip her hand, and she will be there if this case ever gets to the Supreme Court. Obviously she and others there will be on Trump's side.

why does he need to?

obama didnt......

what crimes has trump committed that he needs to pardon himself?

be honest...if obama ever suggested pardoning himself wouldnt you consider it proof that he committed crimes?

Maybe Obama should have. A lot of nasty and illegal things happened during ObamaGate.

Ofcourse a president can pardon himself...but even if he couldn't...in the last hour of his presidency he resigns, pence is sworn in and pardons Trump.

Easy, simple, and only takes minutes.

Lol I can’t get over how pathetic it is that you are defending Trump pardoning himself.

Better question is, "why would he need to pardon himself?" Besides Russia and Ukraine, what else do you think he pulled during his presidency?...which is the only length of time in which he was a bad boy that he could issue a pardon for himself. :)

You can't pardon yourself from a crime that you haven't been served for. So what you do, is you charge them with a crime when they are no longer president. Therefore, he can't pardon himself, he's not president.

Obama didn't as he had no need to.

Trump has committed tax fraud, bank fraud, insurance fraud. He has two deformation suits pending, his niece is suing him for estate fraud. He is fading okay emoluments clause case or two. Obstruction of justice and who knows what else.

Defending him is a roll's errand. He lost. Cut your loses and seek out an2024 nominee.

Obama? What crimes did he commit? Was he charged or indicted after he left office?

As for Drumpf, pardoning oneself is an open legal /constitutional question. Not a liberal vs. conservative question aside from the issue of what each side would like to be true.

My guess is that Biden would pardon Trump in accordance with his wish to move on and heal the nation

However , Trumps ass will still be in a sling because NY State is going after him for financial crimes and he is petrified of that because he knows how much shit they have on him and his crime family

A presidential pardon of the President itself is likely not in the Constitution. In cases of Impeachment, it is explicitly prohibited. So in that matter, the answer is, "No!" Then it is not hard to take that further. Follow along a Findlaw team reasoning.
________________

Whether Presidents may pardon themselves remains a subject of debate among legal scholars, although the Constitution clearly states that they may not pardon "in cases of impeachment." Still, it also doesn't say that presidents can't pardon themselves of federal crimes, although this particular gambit hasn't yet been attempted.

However, applying for and receiving a pardon is itself seen as an admission of guilt. So any attempt by a president to issue and grant a self-pardon would undoubtedly touch off a constitutional crisis and likely lead, at a minimum, to impeachment inquiries. Considering the original intent of the Framers, who were weary of tyranny, there would be serious constitutional concerns over the fact that a self-pardon could absolve presidents of criminal liability for either their official or unofficial acts, or even for crimes they may have committed before assuming the presidency.

So how would that look in matter of the Trumped-Up Administration, even to Conservatives(?!).

So the liberals have their point. It is not precedented, so even Scalia might contend that the self-pardon at least is no longer timely. There would better have been an 18th century-level test-case.

"Crow, James Crow: Shaken, Not Stirred!"
(Anyone can see how Deut 23: 19-20--timely for Israel--still has apparent basis in the household of Pharaoh, and its subjugation. Then applied, many contend that it led to atrocity-level outcomes!)

If it protects him from vindictive libs, he should do it.

Curious, jillian, do you know what the constitution says, or do you bleat "CONSTITUTION! HUR DURR!!" like a wounded animal?

You know nothing.

I'm pretty sure providing weapons to an enemy is against the law.

Unless you don't consider Mexican drug cartels enemies of the US.

But no, Trump can't pardon himself because as acting president he can't be charged with a crime and he can't pardon himself for a crime he hasn't been charged with.

He tweets too damned much but that's not a crime, yet.

If Trump could pardon a Turkey ...

Sorry, I’m too drunk and full at the moment, too sleepy to add a kicker.

It'd be interesting, since (a) a pardon would have to specify what it is he's getting himself pardoned FOR, and (b) a pardon is also an admission of guilt. I don't think Rump does (b).

What charge would he be admitting guilt to?
