This is news isn't all that surprising to those that have paid attention to the politics of Western Pennsylvania. The open hostility of Democrats from areas without major energy producing sectors have started to sway many traditional Democratic voters in the area to the GOP. The declining membership and power of unions have also played a factor in these shifting demographics. The people of the Rust Belt are hoping the energy sector will restore the region to its former glory. Whether that occurs or not remains to be seen.
