Some bright light pops up occasionally, but usually gets snuffed out just as quickly. Nigeria has seen moments of great hope, only to get knocked down again, usually by some sort of Muslim uprising and banditry. Liberia used to be much better, but of course succumbed to the usual African mentality the last couple of decades. It's own racism is blatant and responsible for a lot of the decline; running off the white farmers and doctors and engineers doesn't make for a successful transition to 'self rule', especially when your 'self ruling leaders' are gangsters like Winnie Mandela and Bishop Tutu's 'coalition' members made up of immigrants, when it would be better off with the local Zulus taking back their own country and sending the immigrants back to where they came from.

Just as we learned about all the aid the left wingers claimed Trump failed to send to Puerto Rico, it's still in warehouses controlled by the local politicians, reserved for cronies and buying votes in phoney elections. And anyway the locals aren't usually grateful when they do receive it, so let the Christians waster their time and money and leave tax dollars out of it; it's mostly tax payer money going to pay for bribes that benefit multi-national corporations anyway, a subsidy for shareholders here for companies that don't pay taxes here.

Nothing is sadder than the corruption, brutality, and poverty of almost all African nations.

I sincerely feel that one reason is that their European tutors granted independence too early.

Actually, this idea does not apply only to Africa.

I have never forgotten reading the comments of a former Burmese official who admitted that his country was a much happier country when it was ruled by their British big brothers.

And I am guessing that many Hong Kongers also wish that the Brits were still in charge.

(P.S. The people of Puerto Rico are very smart. They do NOT want "independence." They know that things would be even worse if their rulers were not restrained by the American federal government.)
