Robert Byrd was not from the deep south. The KKK that reemerged in the early 1900s after it was all but destroyed in the south. Most of the members hailed from Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio.

My father and his 4 siblings were raised by his aunt who had 12 children of her own after his mother died. He was raised on the Tennesse side of the same mountains that the Hatfields and McCoys were living on. Needless to say--they were POOOR --dirt poor with absolutely nothing. None of them committed any crimes besides making and selling a little Moonshine....They never stole anything, never attacked anyone well except they did run one family out of town who did steal several bicycles.

I grew up poor--around other poor farm kids. Some committed crimes---most didn't and would never. I certainly never did.
