This is why regulation as we know it has to end. Ron Paul hit it right on the head when he said
Government invites lobbiests to come in.

Then they say well lets do some regulating to iron things out and keep things fair.

Who does the regulating?

Its the industry's that have done the regulating because they have the money to lobby congress.

Look at the regulation surrounding a resturant. My god govenrment regulation accounts for ALL of the cost in opening. Government regulation is what makes starting a resturant a huge expensive deal and more importantly keeps small business down. The market should be regulating the resturants! Customers and the civil courts (which is we the people) are supposed to be regulating themselves. Governments should be worried about patrons being able to leave the resurant in the event of fire, not in regulating: all manners of cooking, construction of the building, placement of heat items, ventilation etc. etc. etc. etc.

It all has got to go.

If you're really concerned about who's doing the regulating and how money influences the process, I hope you've signed this petition.

Thank you for going ahead and proving why PaulBots are bizarre and shouldn't be allowed outside the house without adult supervision.

The Market should regulate a resturant. You mean my only protection from getting food poison at an unsanity resturant should be that they make such a muddle of it that they get a bad reputation and go out of business? Really? Are you seriously proposing this with a straight face?

Yeah that about explains it.

Lobbyists write much of the legislation involving their industries.

Now on one hand, that make perfect sense.

Who else is conversent enough with that industry TO write legislation but the experts in those industries?

OTOH, that also can lead to sweetheart legislation for that industry IF we cannot count on our POLS to put the well being of the nation ahead of the needs of the industries they are supposedly regulating.

And that is the problem, the influence of Lobbyists on legislation and regulations.

Although I still maintain that the real problem is enforcement, not the way the regulations are written.

OSHA gets a lot of flack, but OSHA also gets the job done. Most companies are very hawkish about safety. Because they aren't shy about handing out fines.

Compare that to the SEC, which is pretty much in the back pocket of the banking industry, and it shows.

That's called the "incumbency protection act."
