Who likes the United States, or the west, in general thanks to Barack Obama's personal goodwill?

Viktor Yanukovich is a pro-Kremlin flack who was elected Ukrainian President in Year Two of Obama..

KIEV (Reuters) - Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovich has scrapped a state body set up to oversee the country's eventual accession to NATO, a presidential decree on his website said Tuesday.
The move was in line with statements by Yanukovich that membership of the U.S. military alliance was no longer on the agenda, and was certain to please Moscow with whom he is trying to establish warmer relations.
The decree said he had wound up a presidential commission for preparing Ukraine for membership of NATO -- a body set up by his pro-Western predecessor, Viktor Yushchenko, who was on poor terms with Moscow.

There are no friends in the international community, there never have been. Stop saying this nonsense, when national interests conflict states will collide, regardless of their political ideologies, regime leanings or whatever. Get with it.

In 1990, after Obama was elected president of the Harvard Law Review, Rezmar Corp. offered him a job, which Obama turned down. Obama did end up taking a job with law firm Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, which primarily worked civil rights cases, but also represented Rezmar and helped the company get more than $43 million in government funding and whose former senior partner, Allison S. Davis, later went into business with Rezko and, in 2003, was appointed to Illinois State Board of Investment by Governor Blagojevich at Rezko’s request. On July 31, 1995 the first ever political contributions to Obama were $300 from a lawyer, a $5,000 loan from a car dealer, and $2,000 from two food companies owned by Rezko. Starting in 2003, Rezko was one of the people on Obama’s U.S. Senate campaign finance committee, which raised more than $14 million. Rezko threw an early fundraiser for Obama, and that fundraiser was instrumental in providing Obama with seed money for his U.S. Senate race.

There are no friends in the international community.

But there are states that enjoy good relations with each other. Obama is consistently identifying those states and destroying that relationship.

Who cares what state's enjoy "good relations" with each other. All that matters is OUR national interest. Those relations stop mattering the second their interests collide with ours.

Edit: And what have allies like the EU or Israel really been doing to help us lately on the international stage? They've been behind sanctions on Iran because its a greater threat to them, they're paralyzed dealing with Russia and N. Korea, they're economy is faltering, their support for the war has been faltering, etc. They are a liability in the Middle Eastern peace process, and they're focus on humanitarian issues often lies in conflict with our military interests, despite our strides to minimize casualties.

Despite Israel's friendship with us in the region, their recent actions have been similarly parasitic. In fact, for the past twenty or so years they have been, using American dialogue as a stalling process to expand territorial development and exacerbate the anti-Americanism in the region.

These are not the actions of allies you have "good relations" with. Leaders on a personal level may have good relations, governments may be similar in ideologies, but there have not, nor will there ever be "good relations" between states. You start to move into global society theory when you start talking about notions of "good" or "bad" relations.

Yawn... discussed ad nauseam during the campaign. Best you can do?

Global "societies" probably won't change much. But since we now operate in a global "economy," the policy of appeasement is the only way forward. Now before anyone takes that single word as having some hidden meaning, it simply means in this regard that the US needs to be careful how it deals with other countries on every single level. We can no longer go around huffing and puffing that we're the biggest and the best which implies that all the other 6.9 billion on earth are somehow defective.

But thank heaven we have Obama and his open hand policy to Iran, Venezuala and No.Korea now.
How's that working out for us again?

Not well informed about international politics and current events I see. I suspect there's an ignore button in your future.

I suspect you will be ignoring me in the future too. I've noticed oftentimes that when people's realities are shattered they tend to run away and ignore the truth rather than go through all that work of independent thought.

But tell me, if you're quite informed, tell me what benefits of the old "special" relationships we share with europe and Israel are still intact or not quickly eroding?

All of those factors are economic, political and military facts. Unless you can counter them with empirical evidence of the opposite, I see nothing but unsubstantiated claims that you like to espouse until someone challenges you on them.

there have never been "friends" in international politics. Our founding fathers knew that, and subsequent leaders up until Wilson's time knew that. Wilsonianism is what started all of this nonsensical friend bullshit, that quite frankly, is not only detrimental but potentially harmful to our nation's security.

Let's look at the original Oslo accords, where we had a chance to quite possibly end the Arab-Israeli conflicts. While both the Israeli's and Palestinians played an integral role in the peace processes failure, vested interested in the American government (supported by groups like AIPAC) sought further concessions from the palestinian government, despite their willingness to recognize Israel as a nation. Nearly twenty years later now, the fighting continues.

While the failure of the original Oslo accords and its predecessors can't be attributed to any one single party, it's clear that favoring one nation over another can have detrimental effects. This can only be compounded when you are a hegemony and constantly monitored and observed as an example.

"Special" relationships erodes our legitimacy and credibility, as well as ties us up in the interests of other nations. This is unacceptable. America's interest should and must always come before other nations. The only time this is void is on issues that will effect the entire globe and thus everyone's interest is equitable. There are very few instances of this though (at times of near Nuclear holocaust, in the future if global warming becomes more prevalent this will require a "global interest" based approach, etc).

After all, before he got elected, Chris Matthews told me he would restore our image abroad.

We should just ignore the fact that he couldn't get the Olympics, and that Muslims are still trying to kill us, and that Iran is moving closer and closer to a nuclear threat, and just accept what Chris Matthews says.

Open hand? There are fresh sanctions against Iran, with even China and Russia near agreement on joining (to be discussed during the arms proliferation summit going on as we speak). North Korea has been sanctioned by the UN Securty Council to the extent that their ships are stopped in international waters and searched for weapons. And just what is it you'd like the US (Obama) to do about Venezuela? Shall we piss off Chavez with threatening words so that he stops shipping 10% of the oil consumed in the US?

Yeah, ferchristsakes, he's had over a year to pull all that together. I guess Obama ain't The Messiah after all, eh?

The olympics? On the grand scale of things, who cares?
